alvald83 Posted June 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2013 I broke my fuel tank cover door on my trip and need to repair. Has anyone come up with a good repair for these? The hinge separated from the door itself. I was thinking of just drilling through the door and putting some type of flat bolt.
Prairiehammer Posted June 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2013 Al, Did the screws strip out of the ABS plastic door? Are the bosses that the screws screwed into still there? If so, try finding a SLIGHTLY larger diameter self tapping screw of the appropriate length and gently screw it into the bosses. Failing that, you might consider utilizing rivnuts (internally threaded pop rivets) and appropriately length screws. Failing that, just drill through the lid and install some nuts and bolts with locking washers. If you can find stainless or chrome truss head screws they would provide a low profile and more decorative appearance.
