He knows the co-worker to be a regular, conservative fellow, and so he’s curious about this sudden change in “fashion sense.” The man walks up to his friend and says, “I didn’t know you were into earrings.” “Don’t make a big deal, it’s only an earring,” was the sheepish reply.
