gord Posted October 5, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi, I have been having a lot of trouble with the bike since having a tire installed in the spring. I took the wheel off again to replace the back tire and discovered what I think might be a missing part. I have the axle bolt, and a washer that goes on just before the crown nut. Am i right in thinking that there should be a spacer/washer between the swing arm and the caliper housing, ? let me know , or if you have a picture/ drawing of the back wheel components it would be a big help. lonestarmedic Posted October 5, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2008 Gord - try the pictures in this thread. You can click on them to get a bigger view. There should be a thick heavy washer between the caliper support arm and the swing arm. Hope this helps. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515 JB
mark reed Posted October 5, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 5, 2008 The only spacer on my 83 is in the right side of the wheel. Not really visable when assembled. It is against the bearing with the seal around it.It could possibly fall out when disassembled. lonestarmedic Posted October 5, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 5, 2008 Mark - there should be the stepped washer against the bearing. From bearing outward: 1. Bearing to stepped washer 2. Stepped washer to caliper arm 3. Caliper arm to thick washer 4. Thick washer to swing arm. See the attached parts diagram. The caliper arm is not shown. However, notice the collar and the washer. The parts breakdown is of a 1983 Venture. Number 27 is the washer and number 4 is the collar. In between them is the caliper arm. JB
gord Posted October 10, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted October 10, 2008 just as I suspected the idiot that I had working on my bike lost a part. The spacer/washer between the swing arm and the brake caliper bracket. I am gonna shim it up some with washers, but would love to have the original part, if you have one, let me know Thanks Gord
