  1. Thanks guys for the heads up on the grease job that should be done. I already have a printout that I am going to give the tech that is going to replace the rear tire. Because the bike is a 1999 I will request all the necessary things be greased while the rear wheel is off. Again the Venturerider.org came through with info that is usefull and timely.

    Thanks again guys.

  2. I got the upgrade kit from earl asap. Thanks Earl. The instructions were clear and the upgrade went without a hitch. I took the bike for a short drive and the clutch working just fine. Unfortunately unable to put the bike through it's paces at this time as I have a nail in the rear tire. I sure hope that the rear tire replacement is the final repair that I have to do for awhile. Thanks eveyone for the advise. Much appreciated. Should anyone else have the same clutch problem I highly recommend dealing with Earl. He was quick and very helpfull.

  3. I certainly agree about this site. Good info and always someone who has gone through the same problem. I think I have all problems figured out. Only thing left to do is replace the clutch spring (which has been ordered from earl) and I should be good for awhile. Clutch problem was the subject of another thread.

Thanks everyone for the great advise.

  4. Had the carbs synced and the valves spaced which is what I took the bike into the shop for. However as the service manager was going over the bill he was telling me the price for an oil filter. When I asked what an oil filter had to do with the carbs and valves he stated that they did an entire check of the bike and did an oil change. (I had just changed the oil and put synthetic oil in the bike) When I told him that and stated that I did not ask for an oil change he went to check with the mechanic.

I was so mad that when he offered to drain the oil and replace it with synthetic I just asked for my bill so I could get out of there. This total check by the mechanic failed to change the clutch and brake fluid and missed the clutch slip problem. The bike runs the same as when I took it into the shop. I am now $350 in the hole.

I will work on the bike myself with the help from the people on this forum. I have received only good advise and what to look for and how to do the repairs needed. $12.00 is an easy decision to make to join. Thanks everyone.

  5. Thanks everyone. Thanks Earl. I sent you an email. I will contact you tomorrow. To answer the question as to how many kms. I have just turned 80,000 kilometers. Not sure what that is in miles but I think it would be around 60,000 miles.

The info from the members of this site has been well worth $12.00. I will be joining for sure as I know I will get the bike back on the road with no problems soon.

Thanks again to all who replied.

PS: Just ordered the Clutch Spring kit. I will post on how the repair went and what difference the update makes. If I can do this update clutch spring repair any one can.

  6. I have recently purchased a 1999 rsv. I previously rode a goldwing. I am enjoying the different ride provided by the venture. But now I am experiencing a clutch slip at the higher rep range. When applying throttle it is like the clutch lever was engaged and the bike revs up. I will change out the clutch fluid and check the clutch spring and I am hoping this will fix the problem. My question is how long should a clutch replacement take and how much will this set me back?

  7. Thanks very much to all those that posted comments. The bike is a 1999 Royal Star Venture with 79,000 Km. I put some carb cleaner addative into the gas and that seems to have helped considerably. The previous owner checked with his mechanic as to when the carbs were synced last and also the spacing on the valves. According to the mechanic they were never done as the bike was running fine. Tune up scheduled for next week. That should take care of the rough running bike.

    Thanks for all the response.
