Hey Guys,
I had the local dealer mount my new shinko white walls....... I've had a very slow leak in the front for some time now. Checked for leaks in the hot tub and could not see any evidence of a leak. I would lose 5 - 6 psi in a week.
New tires mounted and now I'm losing the same 5 - 6 psi a week in both. I thought a long ride would nip it but no dice.
The dealer gave me this "well you should check your pressure every time you ride anyway" ****.
Can I shoot a sealer in there? I hate to remove both wheels again....argggg
Thanks

Although it is moot now, for others reference here is the true reference http://www.merlinsblood.com/products.html.
Scroll down to see his tire grafics
I did see that but only letters.... no white walls.

Good Morning Guys,
I'm in NJ and I called 3 places. 45 each, 55 each and another at 45 each if you bought the tires from us. If not 65 each. The 45.00 shop is a small place and the dudes high all the time....so I past. The 55 and 65 were Yammy dealers. The front valve was only 3 bucks. The rear was the metal 90 degree valve and I think it was a bit over 20.00. Three bucks a piece to dispose of the old tires. It's not brain surgery but I know I got a good job and may not have from the 45.00 shop.
I never pay for anything except auto work at the dealer on my newer VW Tourage...... everything at the house, elec, plumbing, framing, roofing ect but wrestling with tires....I'll pass (
Have a great day and remember the real reason have we have the extra day off this weekend!

Wow.....you are very lucky. I can't believe you could ride that bike with the tire pressure so low..... If I'm a few pounds low i can feel it.
I just changed my tires and my rear Avon also had some minor cracking on it

I just put a pair of Shinko 777 whitewalls on my 98 RSTD and I am very happy with them. I stayed with stock sizes and Shinko was my only option in a wide whitewall. Cost me $233 with free shipping from eBay.
That's what I did....EBAY thru Chapperel. Don't remember the exact cost but low 200's also with free shipping. Pulled the wheels off and the local Yammy dealer charged me 147.00 for mounting, balancing and new valves. I love the look of the white walls on my pearl white bike. I took it up and down the streets of my neighborhood and it felt great. I went down to 130's in the front. Feels like a big difference.
Thanks for your reply.

Try tire grafixx.com, they have some very interesting products.
Someone else mentioned them as well but that link takes me to another company and I didn't see any thing for tires.
I did end up with getting the shinko 777's
Thanks for your reply

I like all that is synthetic. I use 80W-90. It will all be rated GL5-6
Awesome! Thanks much for the pictures!

Looks like it is welded to the frame there. Hard to say, but you should be able to get a better eyeball on it. Final drive oil I liked a full synthetic . Most "whine" is usually from the clutch basket. But with a lower gear ratio I could believe it makes a bit more noise. I think 70w140 may be the weight I ran, but check the service manual. There are a couple places one is available from download free.
Thanks. Yah that bushing has a hole thru it, like takes a bolt. There is no evidence or markings of a nut ever being there.
I'm not sure but I think that's the battery box on top. ....I got to get my seat off tomorrow and look at the top side.

Hey Guys,
Couple questions.....
1) I was looking at my rear shock and right above where the top bolt goes thru the shock eye there's a tab with a hole in it and a rubber bushing above it. I'll try to attach a picture. I have no bolt there. Am I missing a bolt? Is that the battery box above the shock?
2) I searched but couldn't find an answer....best oil for rear drive. One that may eliminate my whine ( I have a v-max final drive)
Thanks,

Thanks for the info and the links.... I'll check em out!

The Dunlop 404's look really good, but they don't last very long. I had a set on my 08 that looked really good. Metzler used to make a pretty set don't know if they still do. They worked well for me but I think they only made tire for the front. Avon made the best looking ones and as I remember a good performer.
BTW welcome back, I remember you. Since I had to go to 3 wheels and am now on a Spyder, I don't spend a lot of time here any more.
Thanks for the reply.... Hope you are enjoying the Spyder. Yah....I've read that the 404's are only good for 5k....that won't work. I see Metzler makes a 130/90/16 in white wall. I'm not sure if this is the size guys are going to. But for the rear they only have a 170 and I don't know if that will fit.
Hoping to hear from someone who has done this.
Thanks

Good Morning Guys,
It's been quite a while since I've been on here. Hope everyone is doing well.
I'd like to buy a set of white wall tires for my 06 RSTD. I'm sure this has been beat to death but I searched and can't find where it is.
First I'd like to know what tires you guys feel are best. I ride 1 up, and don't tow. I have AVON Venom's on the bike now. I'd like the best riding tire I can get. Thinking about dropping the front tire size down to the 130 for a lighter feel, but using my stock wheel.
In addition I'd like to go with white walls. My bike is lowered if that matters.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Well this is a long shot but I suppose worth mentioning. I'm not sure where your switch for the passing lamps is located but on the Venture, it is on the inside of the fairing. There have been numerous cases where the wires going to the switch get pinched in the notch on the triple tree. If your wires are routed similar and past the triple tree, trace it out and make sure that the insulation hasn't been pinched on rubbed through on the wires. Now that USUALLY results in a blown fuse but if it is just chafed a little, maybe it is just getting a partial ground and causing your issues.
Thanks for the reply Freebird. I'll have to trace the wires. My switch is located right in the chrome seal beam bucket. It's odd caused I'm not blowing the fuse. I remember that when I first installed my commander (computer) when I hit that switch it would make the main fuse blow. The computer has been installed since 2007 or so without any issues so I doubt it is that but guess it could be.
I'll check back in when I find it.......

Hey Guys,
Been a long time. Hope you are all well. I'm having an issue someone may be able to help with.
When I switch on my passing lights on my 06 RSTD my Speedo goes blank. i turn the switch back off and after 15 - 20 minutes the Speedo comes back on.
My passing lights were added by the dealer when I bought the bike.
Other than that it runs fine....
Thanks for thinking about it.

You bet.... anytime. Let us know how you make out.

The way that picture is drawn is a little misleading or maybe we're looking at it backward.
The bank of coils where you have your red circle is actually the front coils. The rear coil wire I'm on is yellow and is shown on your drawing.
Bob
-
Well it was the neg side of the rear, right coil. I can't tell you for sure that the wire was white.
I've worked on numerous wiring jobs in the last couple months and the brain ram is low.... hope I don't get the blue screen anytime soon. (
I'll be home in a few hours and will look and get back to you. I'm thinking orange.... I'll be back around 10 pm

hey rick
wow....nice trip! hope you have a great trip!
I've been out on the bike since you did my seat twice for a couple hours each time....it was odd because when I came back it was like..... monster ovals> check, dyna>check,
vmax gears> check........ seat? huh? it was like I didn't feel it or my butt hurting. it was like it disappeared. so I'd say that's a great job!
I'm going on a 7 day ride june 9th...... the first day were riding 12 hrs..... not my idea at all.... then 4-5 hours a day. so that'll be the true test.
so far so good. enjoy your trip and i'll report back after the trip

Thanks for the replys guys. And thanks for the video PUC. This **** pisses me off....that's why I took the wheels on / off myself cause I don't trust anyones work and these jerks can't even mount the tires. I have aired them up to 45 and put 100 miles on her with no luck. Arggggg
