  1. I'm pretty sure they are referring to the idle jet/air mixture screws under the brass plugs just below the diaphram cover screws on the outside. Not "IN" the carb. Excuse me if I am wrong. I am no mechanic. Good luck. :080402gudl_prv:

Brass cover? Where? Inside the bowl?

I don't see anything (unless there's another name they're using) in the service manual about this.

Can you guys point me to a section in the manual that I'm overlooking? Can we start from the exploded view on page 4-1 of the service manual?

    "Needle Valve Screw"

    - Is this the cap/screw that meets up with the "Float Needle Valve" at the fuel feed input to the bowl?

    - The "Needle Jet Screw" identified here was screwed down tight onto the jet block when I opened these up for cleaning. I can't imagine this should be "loose" (not tight) since there is no spring to prevent the screw from backing all the way out (providing a locking mechanism).

    Thanks for your input!

  2. Yeah Brian,

It has been a lot of work so far. I rode it when I first got it. I didn't start taking her apart for about 2 weeks. I put about 100 miles on her right after I bought it. Then I started taking her apart little by little. Thanks for your info.

You have a lot of work there, but the good thing is your initial costs were low.

There are a lot of parts on Ebay, & people here are incredibly helpful.

One step at a time, you'll be up & riding in no time!

  3. I finally got some pics of "Brown Sugah." The last one is the clutch master cylinder being soaked with PB Blaster because the split ring won't budge right now.

Ed these guys on this forum are TOPS!

doing a face to face with them on some rides this summer!

  6. Howdy Andy,

"Bernice" is sure looking good. I've been watching/reading your progress. My 1985 was in a lot worse shape but I am getting it back slowly but surely. I paid scrap iron price for her @ 77.50 and so far I have about 300.00 in her. She is coming along good. I named mine "Brown Sugah." :rotf: Keep up the great work and I'll definitely be paying attention. I must say again that this is the best motorcycle website ever. At least to me. So many helpful people.

Today I changed the oil but decided to run some Seafoam through the crankcase 1st.

I was told the oil was change back in August (but I trust no one).

The oil was a dark gold caramel color. I found that out during the midcase cover spill while doing the slave cylinder.

I warmed up the bike, dropped in 6 oz of seafoam & spent the next 5 minutes on the centerstand going thorough the gears.

I cannot adequately describe the black sludge that I drained out. Not to mention the condition of the filter! After I changed the oil I did notice that the bike runs cooler. (according to the gauge).

All in all Seafoam in the crankcase is a good idea...at least once!

  7. Thanks Venturous. I got all my bulbs replaced. Speedo greased where it needs to be greased. Was fixin' to put it back together but decided to come in from the shop and check this thread. I used 3 in 1 oil on the tach.

Thanks a bunch you guys........ :thumbsup2:

On the speedo, as you may have already have read, you want to put the grease down into the very bottom around the sleeve where the cable goes into from the outside. On the tach, I don't suggest using a thick grease like the speedo because it can make the tach slow, especially when cold.
