  1. While riding up a hill in 5th gear doing approx. 70 mph I heard what sounded like an engine backfire pop then lost all transmission power.  Engine whined and I limped to the shoulder.  I had no gears to hold from rolling back downhill.  Clutch lever seems to operate properly, and the shift lever seems to operate properly as well.  I trailered it to my destination and hours later had just enough trans power to limp into another trailer.  Now at home, after several days I tried it again and with the clutch pulled in and trying to start in gear the bike tries to roll forward.  When I shift from neutral to 1st I heard a grinding noise and then back to nothing again.

I am nowhere near as mechanically talented as the majority of you are.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Freebird,

All is well on the Mongo front. Still riding my Midnight Venture Trike and loving the info I pull from the forum.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I found the issue to be the trailer connection wiring to be grounding out. Once I separated them all better that resolved the problem. Now I find that the small blue relay under the left lower fairing, which apparently works the brake lights is malfunctioning. It clicks every time I squeeze the brake lever and some auxilary lights go out. THat is weird. Any suggestions? I figure that relay must be bad.

  4. Hello All,

I've got a head scratcher and am hoping ya'll can point me in the right direction. I am working on my 2007 RSMV that has a Hannigan Trike kit on it. I had the left front turn signal bulb not working so I replaced it and it works. Now I noticed that when I put on my hazards, nothing changes. All running lights are illuminated, but not flashing. When I put on my left turn signal, the front turn signal blinks, the rear signal blinks and the auxiliary brake light flashes as well as the two auxiliary strip lights on the trunk flash. When I put on the right turn signal the front signal does not flash, but everything else in the rear is blinking in addition to a couple of front facing running lights I mounted in the trike frame.

When I apply the front brake I hear a loud click coming from the lower left fairing. The brake lights work except for the auxiliary strip I added and the auxiliary running lights that go out.

I checked the wiring connections in the rear and have not found any issues. I did order and apply another hazard relay next to the coolant reservoir under the right side cover with no change. It clicks just like the old one did. With it came a smaller relay that I think goes under the front fairing, but I have not cracked the fairing to apply it until I rule out some other potential problems.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  5. I put the 1 1/2" risers on my RSV trike and liked the improvement, but it just wasn't enough. I ran into another large RSV rider and he put 10" bagger bars on his RSV. I sat on his bike and loved the width and height of the bars. He said he maintained the stock wires and cables by rerouting them around the triple tree. I ordered and received the bars from Amazon and plan to do the install this weekend.

    More to come.....

The new bars went on much easier than expected. I rerouted the throttle cables under the triple tree. I was told i would have to reroute the clutch line, but it worked just fine without doing so. THe brake line was a little tight, but once adjusted into position, it worked fine. I really like the additional height and width these bars provide. I will have to see when I ride, but my hands are definitely above and outside of the fairing. Thanks to BK for the info on changing them out.

I took pictures, but can't get them to load for some reason. The pics posted below by Condor look much like mine except mine are chrome.

  7. My thoughts are that would be awfully long bolts to have to deal with!! I use the 1 1/2' Barons risers with the Flanders bars and find the setup to be very comfortable...

How much rise do the flanders bars provide? Did you need to extend the control wires and hoses? Do you have a pic? Thanks

  8. Has anyone put 3.5" or larger risers on a 2nd Gen RSV? The 1 1/2" risers just aren't doing it for me. I am not sure how my plan wll work, but I am considering adding some 3.5" or 4.5" risers turned up toward the dash. I know I will need to replace my hoses and wires. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find the extended wires and hoses?

I am 6'5" and want my arms more level instead of going so far down to the grips. I had planned on keeping the stock bars.

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

  9. My 06 RSV would not start last week. I put a trickle charge on it and fired up fine the next day. I drove it to a VA appt with no issue. It started up again after my appt, but died on my way to work. No power, radio flickered out, no horn, dead. I replaced the battery after it sat for about 30 minutes and it fired right up. Went another 15 miles and it died again. It acted like it was out of gas, but it had plenty. Again the radio flickered and no horn or other power. I checked the connections and all seamed ok. After sitting for approx. 45 minutes it started up again and I made it another 3 miles before it died again.

I am thinking this is an obvious short in the system and I am leaning toward the stator. I pulled the 3 pin connection and did the recommended tests. I did not have continuity when I should have and had it when I shouldn't have. Before I get into the job of pulling the stator out, is there any other suggestions for this issue?

    Thanks to all.

  10. Thanks all for the great feedback. I have over 43,000 on my bike, run Avon Venoms, brand new rear at 46 psi and front that will need to be replaced within 6 months at 41 psi. I will give it the once over before I take it to the shop next week to see if I can resolve the problem. I have noticed my seat is a little loose and I will check the other suggetions you provided.

    Thanks again all.

  11. Hello all,

My 06 RSV has developed a loose feeling in corners and I am feeling every undulation on the road. Often times unlevel parts of the road will move me in the lane. Also I am getting some vibration in the front. I initially thought it was my suspension, but the Yamaha dealer is saying the front bearings and swing arm bearings probably need to be repacked. He recommended the 16K service.

Any suggestions before I drop $900 on what sounds like a very thorough servicing?

    Thanks

  12. It is the life arm that is bent. I did bend it back to shape, but the next time I tried to get it under my bike it just bent again. I am sure it was weakend due to the angle when I had a rear blow out on the freeway doing 70. I am sure these things were not designed to lift the bike when the back tire is flat. Lately I have just been going back to the 2x4 under the tire and it works then. Now I just have to figure out why my brand new Avon Venom is leaking air. Spray bottle up! Thanks all.

  13. I have test driven the Kawasaki Voyager which is frame mounted and of course I have an 06 RSV. I prefer the RSV overall, but was impressed with the minor benefits of the fixed fairing.

A far as having a Yamadavidson, I have a sticker on my bike that says "Hardley a Davidson" I giggle every time I look at it. I have owned two harley's and won't have another unless they quite being so damned proud of them. $$

  14. I bought a center stand from Ponch last year and it has worked great. Unfortunately the kick stand part bent so now it won't work. I have sent Ponch a couple of messages, but no reply. Anyone have any other ideas about a center stand without having to pay $300 for it? Thanks

  15. Thanks again all. after giving it some thought and putting my somewhat mechanically inclined mind to work on something other than work, Ugh while staring at my bench vice hoping for some inspiration I decided to bend the stock mirrors just short of straight and gained the almost 2 inches I was wanting. I went slowly and made sure I didn't damage the chrome. They look great and work like a champ.

Something else I did this week was replace a broken Kuryakn ISO grip and reinstalled the stock weights back into the handlebar. I simply drilled out the middle of the ISO to accomodate the weight and screwed it back in where it belonged. Yes the throttle side needed a spacer in order to be able to tighten it down and still leave a little gap for the throttle backlash. Works like a champ and looks great too!

  16. Thank you Gentlemen. Unfortunately I don't think that 1st Gen Mod will work on my 2nd Gen. Looks good though, thanks for sharing. I think my problems will be solves with some extensions that I found on ebay.

Ride safe and enjoy the ride.

  17. Has anyone found a good set of similar to stock mirrors that have an extended stem. With the addition of my dog trailer I need some additional height to my mirrors to see over it. The right side is a left handed thread on the RSV. I just found that out as well so the vast majority on the market will not work. I wouldn't mind just adding an extension, but again they are right handed as well.

    Thanks
