  1. Hello everybody, been a while for me here. I was riding my 97 RSTD when I went to down shift coming off the freeway and there was nothing!! I pulled the clutch and coasted to a gas station right off the freeway, where I saw that the linkage had come loose from the tranny! I was able to push it in and got it into 2nd gear to get home with, but I'm not sure what the fix is here. Anyone know? Thanks!

  2. Thanks JB. I like loud pipes as long as it's a deep sound. They are perfect as far the sound is concerned the way they are. Just not sure how much performance I'm missing. One thing that I do notice on the bike is a considerable lack of low end grunt compared to my Harley. I'm assuming that's due in part to little or no back pressure from my pipes. Does anyone here have a video or sound clip of their bike with Bubs pipes on it?

By the way, those pipes look real good!

  3. In my opinion the HD 80 CI evolution was the best of their modern engines. I'd buy it to keep it and watch the value go up up up. I wouldn't buy for a quick turn around.

I agree but only the purists want those evos these days... Everybody wants bigger and newer now. I think you'd be hard pressed to turn a profit on a 14 year old bike like that. But it is a bad ass bike!

  4. My 97 RSTD has stock pipes that have been drilled out. Not something I would have done personally (was that way when I bought it), but it sounds great and has no signs of running lean or rich. I'm certain that I'm losing torque, but the bike runs great. Of the pipes I have researched, the Bubs set looks to be the way to go but now that I have gotten used to the deep growl that the bike presently has, I'm wondering if the Bubs will be too quiet. Has anyone been through my scenario before or have some advice to give?

    Thanks

  5. i hate to rain on ya'll parade but mine is a 2001 model and has the switch behind the right side of the seat! it's a boulivard model. i also have a 96 strd and a 97 tcI that has the switch behind the seat! so those that mean i don't have an 01 but a 96 or 97?? maybe i need to sue yamaha and lakehill motors for selling me a 96 or 97 as a 2001 model?? the first pic is my 01 blvd with large slant bags off a 98 tcII and second is of my 97 tcI(papa dan's old bike) which you see on the fender and has the key switch behind the seat. as i know all the tcII and td's had the switch up front because of the bags being in the way to get to it easyly. not 1000% sure of that but most i've seen has had it there.

Mine is a 97 RSTD and the ignition is in front of the tank on the left side of the frame.

  6. I came from a Harley with the TC88, tuned to the tee. When I first bought my RSTD (I bought it about 125 miles from home) I stopped about 20 miles down the road and told my friend who was following me home that I think I made a big mistake, this bike can't get out of it's own way! We talked about everything I had read about the bikes and I figured I'd go against what I knew from the Vtwin and try extending out the throttle between shifts. That is all it took!! I can't imagine riding anything but my RSTD now, I love it!!

  7. Look at my second post in the thread below. It details how to upload.

After you run through the manage attachments screen and upload 10 pictures, you can go back and upload another ten, and another, to the same thread.

    Gary

Thanks Gary... now can you direct me to the thread below please!! :scratchchin: Sorry for being slightly retarded...
