Thanks!
Yea, the clutch fluid is about the same color as my morning starbucks black coffee.
Where is it I drain the fluid from?
-
Went for a ride this morning and the clutch lever started getting very easy to pull in and the then had problems getting it to go into gear and of course wanted to creep forward while in first gear stopped.
Can't see it being the clutch since it's a 96 with only 4800 miles.
Possibly a clutch master rebuild?

You interested in these? $25 plus shipping. One small scratch on left side, hardly noticeable, can send you a pic of the scratch. I had these on my 96 royal star.
gunk:smile5:
I'll take them!
However, how much for shipping?
You have pm

Will the full size engine guards from a Road Star fit a 96 Royal Star?
Thought I'd ask, I know someone selling the guards really cheap.
Thanks,
Jon

Personal preference is that the passing light are on anytime the headlight is on (high beam or low beam).
At $95/hour for labor, I'd just assume to leave the fog lights alone and let them be ornaments. That's more than what I paid for the lights & bracket combined!
The state of Florida requires the passing lights be on with the low-beam on, and high beam on only by itself. However, no officer that I know if (and I was one of them) could care less, and probably wouldn't know that info anyway, unless they were FHP looking to fill quotes.
I really don't care whether it be high/low beams or constant, for the fog lights to be on, just don't want to blow fuses, and want them to work at least for a while without blowing the ignition, which I've heard them do from time to time:fingers-crossed-emo

I hate to sound "conductively" illiterate, but I have no idea what an ohm meter is or how to use one. I'm not someone who can't put one foot in front of the other, but just have no clue when it comes to electrical/wiring.
I'ohm just going off of basic blueprints from other threads from this site. Trying to keep everything basic.
But I do need to make sure I don't have connections making contact with bare metal in the headlight/fog light housing.
-
I'm sorry, I should've elaborated more...
The fuse that blew was the headlight fuse. After replacing it (the only one I have), I disconnected the red (fog lights) wire from the green wire (which I thought was the low-beam headlight wire), and the headlight works. I'm afraid to hook up the red wire to anything else risking another blown fuse.
Btw... the Yamaha dealership here in Jacksonville, FL. said they would charge me 2 hours labor to wire the lights... Still having trouble accepting that!
-
Finally got the "Yamaha" fog lights, and installed them.
HOWEVER... I didn't do the relay, and just ran the red wire and connected it to the green wire.
Well, when I turned the ignition on, no lights. Turned out the fuse was blown. I'm not sure it was due to the wiring, or just a coincedent. But I don't want to hook it back up to find out.
Which wire, not using a relay, should I hook it up to without fear of blowing another fuse?

Do the bars need to be drilled?

Thank you! I did wonder about running the lines/cables through triple clamps, but a little worried about marking up the tank.
SS brake/clutch lines are the way to go, I used them on all my sportbikes, especially for track days.
I'm not sure if I want to risk going with 35-36" or go with a safer 34".

You will most likely get more answers to your questions on the older Royals here.
I did check that site, however, they don't have a search menu, and answers generally don't come quickly as this site, and members here tend to lend more technical assistance.
But both sites are GREAT!

I'm looking at putting wider/lower beachbar handlebars on my 96 Royal Star to give it a more retro look. Does anyone know the max width & height that I can change to without replacing clutch/brake lines & cables?
Is it even possible to do on the old Edsel?
-
I tried installing the passing lights, but the ones I ordered didn't fit the yamaha setup (blinker inserts)...
I'm still pretty concerned about the wiring, actually confused. Which colored wires do I connect them to, and where do I place the relay?
-
so, where in Florida do you live?
Jacksonville

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!

My weekend's project is installing a set of passing lights/fog lights on my 96 Royal Star.
I've got the "Yamaha" bracket, but the fog lights were bought from Tucker Rocky, so I doubt I'll have instructions.
Can someone shed some light on how to wire these lights up, I've never done something like this before.
Thanks!

Hi all...
Let me start off by saying how impressed I am with all the help & feedback from members of this forum... It's a nice breath of 'fresh air', from some of those other sites...
I'm wanting to service the rearend, not sure how to do it, and what's the best oil to use.
It's a 96 w/4500 miles... Pretty sure it's never been done (assuming).
Will I need a floor jack (bike lift)?
Thanks!
-
Running Seafoam through it now, and riding it liked a raped-ape.
Here's a pic before I put 6 hours of detailing (looks showroom now) and new white-walls.
-
It's running fine, and was run on occasion by my uncle, and no leaks. But not enough to keep the carbs clean, which is my only issue on the bike (other than NEEDING BIG CARBS!)
-
i've been using mobil 1 in mine since it had 4,000 miles on it. now has 74,000 without any problems. you can also use syn oil in rearend too. it'll run and shift a lot easier with syn in it.
My concern was since it's 14 years old with only 4400 miles, and possibly gaskets may be a little dried up and synthetic would cause leaks.
-
I would just use the Rotella 15W40. The synthetic could make it start leaking.
THANK YOU!!!
That was my concern... What color bottle Rotella?
-
I've got 4 quarts of Amsoil 10w-40 that's been laying around (I was going to use on my race bike)...
Would that be ok?
My biggest concern was throwing full synthetic in an older bike w/low miles...

This guy had brand new samson 4X4's for sale in january. Good price and VERY hard to find. New they cost about $550. He was asking $375. He might still have them.

Thanks!
I emailed him but never heard back...
Can slip-ons be installed on a 96?

Monday to Friday: Work 7am to 6PM, if I am lucky.
Saturday's and Sunday's open if I am not riding
There are a couple of members in the J'ville area that may be able to hel, but not sure if they have original Royal Star experience or not ot carb synch equipment.
I will be happy to help if you are in the area or if we can meet someplace.
Sounds like the Seafoam may be a good bet, also if the shop just did the carb overhaul they should have synched the carbs when they put them back on.
It does sound like too much air for the amount of fuel.
If you are in the Daytona area stop by Fun Machines on US1, the service manager is very good see if you can talk with him. Their service dept did the carbs on my 98 a few years back after 2 two other shops goofed them up. When they got done the bike ran as good or better than new.
Thank you Steve!
I may be going to Daytona Wednesday, but driving my lifted F150 to possibly trade for a Customized Harley Sportster.

Thanks guys for all your help...
Elected to let a friend of mine who's a mechanic do it, good thing to, turned out it needed a new clutch piston. I just ordered new rather than a rebuild.
Thanks again for all your support!
