Would using a M/C Trickle Charger keep a car battery charged, or maybe help keep it charged longer before needing a full charge?

I have a couple extra older vehicles and sometimes they do not get run for a few months. By then the battery needs a charge.

I know that one should not let a battery go too low for that shortens its total life span.

I'm just hoping that by using a M/C Trickle Charger on a car battery would hekp keep its charge longer.

I have a couple extra M/C Trickle chargers and was hoping not having to buy extra auto battery charger/maintainers.

  2. Well,, I found that the voltage regulator is BAD!! Replaced it,, and voltage is stable!!

But I still have the problems with the turn signals, Instrument panel, and the Audio system!

    Steve

The R/R won't work properly without a battery to damp the system. If the battery failed open it's possible for the R/R to send voltage spikes that damage components.

It needs to have a good, fully charged battery installed and the charging system checked. Once the charging system works properly every electrical system on the bike needs to be checked and repaired/replaced as necessary.

The fuel pump is probably one of the least susceptible electrical components. If you got a spike that cooked that you're probably going to find lots of stuff damaged.

  3. With all of those unrelated things blowing, I would start with a voltage check to see if the RR is no longer regulating. Without the RR working the stator can put out 20 to 100 volts, this can cook a lot of things.

I have asked about the charging system twice!! They do not seem to know!:confused24:

  4. Here is the story, Cruising along, bike (2001 22,000 miles RSV) acts like it needs to be switched to reserve. Twenty seconds later, engine quits, I pull over to the side of the road and stop. No nutrial light and no response from the starter button, then no electrical at all. Towed to the Dealer (my mech. on Vacation!!) late Saturday afternoon. Late Tuesday afternoon dealer said Dead Battery (only one month old gel cell!!!) and blown ignition fuse. Wednesday first thing I replaced the Battery. Thursday Afternoon, they said the fuel pump is bad ($310), new one comes in on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon the bike is ready to go!!! Pay the bill ($510. And I forgot,, the towing was $135), did a quick pre-flight (5 min. from a big down pour in Naples, Fl) hopped on and got on the main road and noticed the speedometer not working!! turned off the highway, back to the dealer I started checking things!! Audio no power, turn signals not working!! Pulled into the Dealership and very calmly asked,, "Did anyone check this frikin bike?????. The Sky unloaded!!!! And I went home.

Now it is Monday Oct the 7th and the do not know what the problem is!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the list,,, Three turn signal bulbs and the low beam head light are burned out! The audio system does not work, and a fuse blows as soon as you plug it in!! The Dealer thinks there is a bad relay and the Audio system is bad! They cannot tell me if the speedometer works.

    Any ideas??????????

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. For $10 Harbor Freight make a pipe expander set and that makes it easy to slip on, just do a little at a time...:backinmyday:

It looks like the pipe expander is the only answer!

The RK pipes are approx. .025" smaller than the header pipes!

I hope that expanding the RK pipes will not take off the Chrome!

    Steve :fingers-crossed-emo

  6. A common muffler swap is the RK (Road King) slash-cuts .. they can generally be had for 0 - 100 dollars depending on where you get them. That rear bracket fits and you will need a clamp for each side where they join the header pipe. A common clamp is the V-twin clamps part # 31-9920

I got mine from Canadian Chopper in Richmond, BC ... cost about $37

Canadian "Chopper" Dist Ltd - 604-278-6147

    150-5751 Cedarbridge Way , Richmond , BC V6X 2A8

I just picked up a pair of RK's. The new RK's do not seem to be the same size

at the manafold pipe! They will only slip on as far as 3/8 to 1/2 inch, that is as far as

I can get them to go! Tried wackin the heck out of them with the rubber mallet also. Any ideas??

    Thanks,

  7. Robert,

I just got my shock from USA Hagon. It took longer for christina to verify if the remote adjuster was availble for our shock, as you have found out it is not due to short length of our shock.

She told me two weeks once the order was placed and she made it happen. I got the Hagon Shock with the heavy duty spring.

Wife says she notices the difference more than I really did. I don't know how yours rode but with the air holding the shock never bottomed out it just was not doing it proper cycle. I had the bike at Traxion Suspension shop for two weeks trying to get them to make a shock and check the bike out. All they did for me was tell me the shock was diffently shot, so I brought it home and ordered the Hagon Shock.

We have put 580 miles on it now and I am very happy with the performance and the amount of stability it has when you hit a bump in the curves, or the bridge joints, bike adsorbs the bump and keeps the tire planted.

Others say that when the shock goes bad that it felt like a pogo stick, or bottomed out.

Never had any of this. Just extreme tire wear and not that stable in a bumpy curve.

Call me if you have any questions I will try and help.

    Later

Hi Cowboy,, How is that shock working out for you??? Is it riding stiff solo??

My Shock shock went out last month on my 2001 with 15,000 miles!!

My repair Man and I are still looking for a replacement.

I like the idea of tha adjustablity of the air shock,, but that sucker is not cheep or seem to last very long.

Pro's and Con'c on that shock would be helpfull.

    Thanks,

  8. What you say about the water shedding off is absolutely true! I cannot see over my F4 Windshield on my Wing,(I have the +2 model for the Wing) except when I lower it to the lowest position but I find no need to do that.Amazing. The fun part of having this shield is all the folks that come over and start telling me Im going to scratch it using paper towels. It is actually recommended by F4 and it DOES work better using paper towels.

I have the same 19" tall and wide windshield! I love this thing!!!

But,,, I do not see the same water shedding!!

My only complante is, In the rain, water will roll over the top of the wind shield

and run down the back, and come off and hit me in the face!!

I use "Plexus Plexiglass Cleaner", Could this be the issue??

    What do you think F4???

    Steve
