  1. I agree that it's a bit hard to find but when you go to the classifieds, the third blue menu bar from the top on the far right side is a link that says "Place an Ad".

How do you get to "classifieds" ? Can't find it on the home page.

  2. I am interested in putting Metzler ME888 Marathon Ultra tires on my 2006 RSTD. The stock tire sizes for this bike are: 150/90HB-15 Rear MT90HB-16 Front

The closest size in the Metzler (rear tire) is 150/80B-16

My question: will this work on my bike, or is a 16" tire too wide? (The front tire is 16).

Any technical tire help anyone can give will be appreciated.

And . . . anyone have any experience with the ME888 Marathon Ultras?

    Thanks.

  3. With all the good reports on Venturerider about the Michelin Commander I was hyped to buy them for my '06 RSTD. NONE available anywhere I could find. Called Michelin and the tech rep said they've discontinued them in the sizes 150/80-16 (front) and 150/90B 15 (rear).

So unless someone can direct me to a source for a matched front-rear set of Commanders, I'm looking for a recommendation on the next best option. Avon Venom ?

    Please and thank you.

  4. Has anyone taken the fairing from a Venture and mounted it on a Tour Deluxe? If so, can one simply take off the stock speedo on the RSTD and mount the Venture fairing without adding any special mountings? If mounting hardware is needed, does it replace the windshield hardware on the Tour Deluxe?

I like the Venture look but need to stick with my Tour Deluxe, which already has the Venture trunk and passenger seat. Pics on my homepage. Hoppe wants big bucks for their radio equipped fairing and I really don't need or want the audio . . . and they don't sell a fairing without the radio/CD.

Any guidance would be appreciated. If it's workable, I'll be looking for an undamaged upper fairing off of a salvage Venture. Thanks.

  5. Still looking for Saddlebag Lid Trim for my 06 RSTD. Yamaha wants $177 + some for the governor. Cheapest I have found online is $144+. Would really like to find a used or salvage pair in GOOD shape. Any leads would be appreciated.

    Thanks. Peaceful crusin'

  6. Jardine Billet wheels, Avon WWW tires, Radio Caddy fairing with Aquatic AV stereo, Starcom1 digital intercom, Ultimate seat, BUB slip-ons, Dyna ignition module, Race-Tech / Baron's improved and lowered front end, Works Performance rear suspension, Baron's billet floor boards, HD TourPak with Dragonfly 6.5 inch speaker pods, Flanders handlebars, a few Kuryakyn goodies. Oh and an Ultra Star emblem because I couldn't resist....

Is that a Hoppe fairing? If not, I'd appreciate knowing what make, where it can be found, and at what price.

    Thanks.

  7. 07 rstd....hoppe fairing w/stereo, chrome lowers, kuryakyn pegs, butler seat mods, detachable tour pack, wild pig hd mufflers......

Hey Naturbar . . . did you go directly to Hoppe for the upper fairing . . . and how much does one have to fork out? Also, if I ordered a Hoppe for my 2006 RSTD (which has a light bar), will any modifications have to be done to install it?

  8. Tech note: Just replaced the stock handlebars on my 06 RSTD with a Flanders bar that has a 2.5" longer pullback. I went through desert and swamp to find the right bar. Earlier on this forum I was advised that the Flanders G2 Road Glide was the ticket. Wrong ticket! The advisor must have assumed I ride a Venture, which the G2 fits. The narrow center dimension on the G2 is only 6", which is NOT wide enough for the RSTD speedo to fit.

I first ordered the G2 and they sent one that fits a sorry HD. I returned it and they sent the G2 that fits a Venture, which I don't own. The proper bar for the Tour Deluxe is the H-Bar Wide Max Pullback, part # 650-08783, which I purchased at Phat Performance for $127. I returned the second G2 and got the H-Bar in return. While not inordinately difficult, the installation is a bit fussy and takes an hour and a half or so. I did NOT have to buy longer cables, but did have to re-route existing cables . . . which included pulling the tank for proper placement. I also added Kuryakyn ISO Grips, which add a sharp look and dampen vibrations.

The difference is very noticeable. I can now sit against the backrest and not have my arms fully extended and shoulder joints pulled forward. Haven't taken any long trips yet, but driving around town feels much better.

To reinforce for Tour Deluxe riders who want a longer pullback: it's Flanders H-Bar Wide Max Pullback, part # 650-08783.

  9. Anybody out there have any saddlebag lid trim rails they want to get rid of? Used is fine if the chrome is still good. I need ones that will fit my 06 RSTD . . . although I think the lid trim is exactly the same for the RSV and RSTD. Part number is STR-1D672-50-00.

Please give me a shout and how many razbucks you'd be looking for if they are available.

    Thanks

ps I've already added the side saddlebag trim rails . . . they're just not in this picture.

  10. Thanks, Buz. I may just see what Phat Performance wants for one. In the meantime, I'm having problems with handlebars. I posted the following on another threat:

I don't think you can install a riser on an RSTD, because of the way the speedo is mounted. I replaced my bars with a set of Flanders bars with a longer pull back and didn't have to get longer cables/hoses.

I looked into a riser before I bought the bars, and didn't find anyone who made one.

I'm totally confused. Several folks on this forum said they replaced the stock handlebars on their 2nd Generation RSTD with the Flanders G2, part no. 650-08763. That exact bar arrived from Phat Performance today and I immediately went down to my service guy to replace the stock bar. When he took the speedo off we compared the bars and there is NO WAY the speedometer will fit back over the top of the Flanders G2 bar because the center of the bar is a full 2" narrower than the stock bar, hence the speedo will not fit back over the top of it.

For those who have said on this forum that they fit the Flanders G2 on a 2006 RSTD: what did you do with the speedometer? No one ever mentioned have to make any adjustments to remount the speedo, but the tech and service manager both confirmed that there was no way it would fit inside the narrow center dimension of the G2.

Anybody out there know what to do? I REALLY need some more pullback on the bike, and thought this would do it. I e-mailed Flanders and even they said the 650-08763 was the bar for the RSTD. But I don't know what they figured a fellow is supposed to do with the speedometer. Maybe they're all thinking about a Venture, where the speedometer placement isn't a problem.

    Help!!!

Another question: how does one start a new thread on this forum? I can't find any button anywhere to click that says "new thread."

Also, my RSTD has a light bar. Would the Hoppe fairing fit with a light bar?

  12. if your looking for your choice of RK mufflers, forward slash/ reverse slash, side slash, straight cut and a quality piece...take a moment to look at the link i provided. you order the muffler of your choice and the loudness of your choice (removable baffles). i purcased my over a year ago and when i want really loud i take the baffles out, otherwise it has quite a bark with the baffles i ordered.

Hey naturbar . . . nice bike. I just purchased an '06 RSTD with Venture trunk and great Corbin seat. I notice your bike has a windshield fairing. Where does one go to get one of those? Does it replace the OEM windshield without complicated modifications. I'm seeking guidance if you have the time. Thanks.

  13. how much did dropping the front air drop the front end? Don't ya bang bottom on the bumps?

Actually, I didn't drop the pressure to zero in the front forks. When my mechanic went to do so, we found that they were already at zero. Apparently the first owner had them that way.

I've put several hundred miles on the bike since purchasing it and have not felt any bottoming out on bumps either before or after adding the rear lowering kit. Mind you, I stick to paved roads, but on the normal bumps one encounters (including speed bumps) I have experienced no banging at all. Also, since adding the Barons rear lowering kit I have experienced no adverse effects on the maneuverability of the bike . . . in fact, to the contrary, the handling seems as good if not better especially with the lower center of gravity.

  14. Oh, I am not that familiar with the Tour Delux. Wish it had worked for you. However, the flanders bars are better than the risers for pullback. That is a modification I would like to do to mine, but would need to at least see it done first. My mechanical skills are not what I trust to change out lines etc. without at least having some hands on experience.

You might try the smaller tire on front, several of the folks on here have done that and seem to be happy with it.

The tire change sounds like it might be worth trying. Got an exact size you'd recommend? I'll see if I can find anything on the forum too. Thanks.

  15. Silverdeer . . . with the rains close at hand we'll probably have to wait until Spring. But there's a great circle ride around Mt. St. Helen's on some made-for-motorcycles roads with a connection back to I-5 at a restaurant known nationally for its pies. By Spring you should be laughing with Dr. Atkins. Let's touch base then.

Here is the link to a set of risers that will raise the bars up off the tripple tree. A lot of folks on here have used this to pull the bars back. This serves to make the bike much more comfortable as well as allowing you the room to lower the front.

I have these on my bike and it is much more comfortable. My bike is also lowered front and rear.

Thanks for the response, Jerry. I see that you ride a RSV. The risers that work for that will not work for the RSTD. The speedo on the TD sits right on top of the triple tree and is held on by a bracket connected to the top of the front forks. With risers, the speedo would have to be lifted up (however high the risers are), leaving a gap between the speedo housing and the bracket which it could no longer be connected to. Apparently it's a different set up with the Venture, upper fairing and all.

So on the advice of several members of this forum, I just purchased a Flanders G2 handlebar (650-08763) which is both cheaper than risers and will give me at least another two inches of pullback. tsigwing wrote that he fit this bar on his '05 RSTD using existing cables and it gave him what he needed in pullback. I hoping it works identically on my '06. It should.

    Peaceful cruising.

  17. I've got the same bars on my 05 and didn't buy any new cables. You can re-route your existing ones no problem. You will have to drill a small hole for your throttle housing with the new bars and your existing bar end weights won't work.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear the stock throttle cable will work on the Tour Deluxe. Apparently all the extra stuff up front on the Venture precludes that as several RSV members have reported needing a longer cable. I'll only order the G2 bar and do the re-routing thing. Sounds like you haven't had any binding problems on tight turns.

Did you stick with the stock grips? I really like the Kury ISO grips and there's lots of good stuff on this forum about alternative end weights.
