  1. Are you sure you are running on all four cylinders? Start it up cold and let it run a minute and check the pipes and see if all are warm.

You may also have stopped up pilot jets, but that usually affects low to midrange running the most. When you went thru the carbs, did you remove the block with the rubber plugs in the bottom and check those jets?

You can get the carbs close enough to run by looking at how much gap you have on the throttle plates and making them similar.

When I rebuilt the carbs two years ago i went all through them.I didnt have a problem till now.I noticed when I drained the carbs this time to work on them there was no gas comming out of the no2 carb.I took the float covers off and cleaned the inside. They were pretty dirty.I hope that will fix them. When I am going down the highway one carb is temporarilly starved. When it gets enough gas the bike takes off like a rocket.

  2. I have an 83 Venture Royale.I am having trouble with a lack of power once I reach 60 miles per hour.I took the carbs off and went through them.I have used sea foam to clean them.My question is how do you bench sync the carbs?I want to do that before I put them back on and sync the carbs. The bike sat for the winter and I am having problems for the first time. They have been acting up since I had to pull them to change the valve cover gaskets.Any advice would be great.Thanks.

  3. Thanks guys.It makes perfect sence. When I took it to the highway,it smoked and then cleared up.I then had power like a rocket.I will try it again in the morning.I added the whole can of seafoam. That is awesome stuff.

  4. I took my bike out of storage today.I installed new plugs and synced the carbs. The problem i am having is the no.4 carb is not in line with the other three on the guages. When i am riding through town the bike smokes really bad. When I go onto the highway it smokes for a mile or so and runs great.I just put seafoam in the tank and am taking it out right away.I sure hope that fixes it.It never did that last year.I rebuilt the carbs 2 years aga.The cylinder is getting spark so it must be a fuel issue.Any advice would sure be nice.:(

  5. I am installing Road King mufflers on my 83 Venture Royale.I had no trouble getting exhaust pipes between the muffler and the manifold. My question is does anyone know a way to fab the rear brackets?I have an idea but am looking for other options. Also can the mufflers be drilled out or will it cause problems? With the new mufflers on it sounds pretty good but is still quiet. If they can be drilled out, what is the best way?Any help would be much appreciated.:fingers-crossed-emo

  6. If I ever get tired of mine the way it is it may very well end up looking something like these B&W shots.

Some others have done some nice tricks to cleaning up the lines to. I like the blue one a lot, and I got nuttin' to say about the orange thing. Just throwing pics out there for ya.

Those are nice looking bikes.I am thinking of doing that to mine.I am also installing road king pipes.

  7. I would like to thank everyone for your help. You guys are awesome.I checked all my valves and they are in spec. The bike was serviced regularly untill two years ago so everything is pretty good.I am quite happy with the bike.It has more power than a gold wing and just as comfortable.I am a little tired of fixing cracks in the plastic but everything elso makes up for it.

  8. I have 80000 kms on the bike.I rotated the engine to tdc on the compression stroke and cant get the smallest guage under the cam. Also I am having trouble getting the tool to move the piece down to get the shim out.Does the tool work on two valves at a time?I have never had so much trouble to do a simple thing.

  9. I have access to the valves on my 83 Venture to check the clearance. My question is that I cant get the feeler guage between the cam lobe and the shim.I have rotated the cam on the low side. Are the valves just too tight or am I doing something wrong.I have worked on bikes for years and do all my own repairs. This is the first time I have worked on a shim and bucket desighn.I have a shim kit.

  10. I have a 1st generation. The oil indicator on the dash is always on.My oil level in the sight glass is where it is supposed to be.My question is can I bypass the oil sending unit?I have soldered the display unit.

  11. My Ventures windshield has a coating that is coming off.I used 2000 grit sand paper to clean it up.It took the coating off but the windshield is quite foggy to look through. Is there any way I can salvage it?I hate to have to buy another one.I was thinking of cutting it down and painting it black.Unless I can clear it up.

  12. I am rebuilding a set of forks on my 83 Venture.I have a damaged fork tube(scratched).I bought a set off Ebay but the caliper mounts are different. My question is,can I use the tubes off the newer forks and the bottoms off the old forks? They look very simmilar.I am also planning on using all the parts from the new forks. When I took the tubes out I broke a piece off the washer on the inside of the one tube.It is the one that doesnt come out.90 percent of the washer is still there. Can I still use it?

  13. I have a 1st generation. It is in pretty good shape. My question is when you are going between 103 and 116 kph, there is a high pich noise coming from the front of the motor.I have done the wheel bearings and replaced the front tire. Can anyone tell me what this could be.Thanks
