I'm not an AF Brat. I was stationed there from from Jan 85 through Aug 31 1991. I really enjoyed it quite a bit. Its really beautiful country up there.

Mt daughter and I are going to tour Da UP next week. The only destination that is set in stone is KI Sawyer AFB. I was stationed there for 6.5 years in the late 80's and I would like to see how much has changed since it was shut down in 1995.

I lived up there for 6 1/2 years. The best place for Pasties is the Ishpeming/Negaunee area west of Marquette. You'll always get juicy great tasting pasties in that area.

I saw a guy on my way home last night Driving an SUV down I94 North of Chicago with a matress of top of it, he had the back and the side tied down, but the front was sort of picking up with the force of the wind. He was probably tooling along at 60MPH. Scary stuff indeed.

Thanks for the support Dave. I'm going to keep a real close eye on things for the next month or so and see if anything similar happens.
The real issue I have is that I put on 96 miles a day and a good 75 of that is on the expressway. Its not a very safe feeling I had being on the side of the road with people flying by at 70-80 MPH, but I kept myself amused. I actually started cleaning the front of the bike to keep myself from concentrating too much on the traffic. I did keep a weary eye on them though, with plans to hop the meridian if things got out of hand.

I have not modified my filler neck and I doubt that I will. I did it on my last bike and I was totally embarrassed when gas started seeping out of my bike on a hot day.
My wife came to my rescue with almost a gallon of gas (she had never filled a gas can before in her life) and I made it off the highway and to a gas station. I did not pay attention to how many gallons I put into it, I just filled it to the brim and rode home.
I did have an issue a couple of weeks ago with the bike running rough after a really bad storm when I went to Sturgis on the River in Davenport Iowa, but I have put seafoam into the tank and thought I resolved that. Once I got fresh gas into the tank this time it ran rough for a little while (a minute or two) then it roared to life and I took off to get more gas into it.

For the longest time, I have been riding my bike with the petcock in reserve and have had no issues. Well last night on the way home from work on I94 north of Chicago, I ran out of gas with 4.7 miles on the countdown milage indicator. The worst I have ever pushed it is 26 miles (with the petcock in reserve). Never again. From now on I ride in normal and only use reserve when needed. I'm gonna start watching milage a little closer again also and not rely on that IDIOT light.

My daughter sat in line at an Apple Store in Orlando for 14 hours to get her new 4G I-Phone, she paid for it herself with her B-Day money and since it was an ATT upgrade she got it for just over $300. She seems to be very happy with it.

Since me seat no longer bolts on, I just have to wing it and hope that my skinny (snicker) frame will hold that bad boy down while I'm riding.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the crappy battery that they install in the factory. I upgraded to a heavy duty maintenance free at the dealer for $103 and it is running like a dream.
Now on to Sturgis on the River this weekend, maybe I'll see some Venture Riders there (mine will be the 2009 S model with no chrome on the fairing and full of bugs).

I've found that a light travel bag or backpack strapped to the rear seat of a bike using bungee cords does the trick.
One tip that is invaluable when packing is to get some gallon sized (bigger the better) zip lock bags, pack an item or two in them, sit on the bag to get all of the air out, then zip it closed while you are sitting on it. Works just like those fancy vacuum pack jobs and saves a ton of space.

Mine were removed by my paint guy when I had the fairing repainted (my fault). I have since mounted them on my saddlebags with some diamond pieces that I found at Autozone. They almost look like arrows with tips on both ends.

I have a 99 Seville SLS that I have owned since 2004. It currently has 115,000 on the odometer. It has and still does have a couple of issues, but what car doesn't. I would not hesitate to take this car on a long trip.

I purchased a pair of E3's at the end of last season. I'm having the local dealer install them. Is $200 a fair price if I supply the tires?

I have a Beagle that turns 2 later this month. She is just coming out of her puppy stage. I went through all kinds of different things with her, the things that worked best were old socks tied together and knotted and Rawhide bones, The medium sized ones. Make sure they are rawhide and not that processed crap.

I wasn't here yesterday, so I will comment on Saturday today. I left my house in Round Lake Il. at 6:30 AM, Rode about 40 miles South and met some friends. We rode down to the Joliet Il. area and Rode Route 66. We stopped at a few of the nice tourist spots and finally ended up in Pontiac Il.
The rest of the group decided to call it a day and started riding home. I however got a wild hair up my you know where and decided to ride on to St. Louis to see the Cubs ans Cardinals play. The game started at 3:05 CST and I arrived at 3:25 CST. I found a guy selling a ticket, got a real nice motorcycle spot by a pole at half price, went in and enjoyed the game, unfortunately the Cubs lost.
After the game I rode to Grafton, Il. in hopes of finding a place to spend the night, unfortunately for me, what I thought was a hotel behind this really nice resturant (remembered from an earlier trip there), turned out to be townhouses (needless to say, they wouldn't let me spend the night). I spent the next hour and a half driving in the dark, looking for a hotel out in the middle of nowhere. Ended up in Jacksonville, Il. Put about 600 miles on the bike Saturday.

My 5 year old daughter lost her job in the sweat shop and I am now without any spending money till I can find her another job.

About a month ago I started out from my house in Round Lake Il at 5:30 AM, I rode down to the Dragon. I rode the Dragon, Hellbender, and the Smokey Mountain Parkway, then rode back to Shelbyville Kentucky. I arrived in Shelbyville at 12:30 AM and I totalled 1051 miles that day.

Check and see if Criket is available in your area. Its $40 a month and I use it in a remote area about an hour and 20 minutes out of Chicago and it works just fine.
