  1. Well it started off on Monday, took Charlene to the Dr. for some blood tests, but I stayed out in the car because I didnt want to pick up whatever it is that's going around. My wife started with a dry hacking cough, fever, chills last Fri after getting home from the Dr. That's why I stayed out in the car. Well everything was ok until Christmas Eve, I started with the dry hacking cough, aches, and asthma acting up. So much for me staying healthy through the holidays. Went to my daughters yesterday even though I wasnt feeling like it so we could deliver the grandsons gifts and try to have some similance of a normal Christmas, nope, kept getting worse, so last night my breathing got very difficult while trying to sleep in my bed, so I moved to the living room, which is where my wife was sleeping also, it was the only way we could get comfortable. I have an inhalation therapy machine here, so I dont have to go to the hospital unless that doesnt work. I got a little rest after taking another dose of meds and seemed to be feeling a little better with the exception of the dry cough and achey joints. Around 1 pm I decided to eat some light lunch and this is when the scare came. I was about half way thoroug my lunch when I had the worst coughing spell I have ever had, all of sudden I couldnt catch my breath, my wife said that she came over to see what was wrong and I scared all three of them, she said I gasped one last time and went stiff on the recliner, I seem to remember my feet were twitching, and I hear the yelling and screaming at me. They thought I was playing around. I couldnt move for a minute and when I opened my eyes everything was spinning and I couldnt tell if I was sitting up or lying down, I heard Charlene yell loudly "Lewis, dont do that" and my oldest grand son was screaming Grandpa! Grandpa! After about 30 seconds my wits came back to me and I told her I wasnt playing around, I had coughed so hard for so long I emptied my lungs of oxygen and passed out. Everything is back to some similance of normal, but still got the cough and aches. Charlene said when she heard me gasp and quit breathing she thought I was gone. She cant get rid of me that easy.
Had the very same thing happen to me. Be careful while driving!!! Get to your doc. and tell him about your experience. When I had it,I had my wife take me to the hospital.( I very rarely had gone to doctors) I was admitted and observed overnite. What happened when you passed out was...As told to me...by passing out, that's you're bodies way of shutting down so you don't suffacate. It relaxes so you'll keep breathing. As with me,being bullheaded,I drove and had another episode and went left of center and didn't wake up until I was going off and into the ditch. Get well soon!
  2. Thanks for the replies,I was just wondering.I knew that people already, for the most part, had a bike but was thinking that they'd put the word out.I've told a lot of people about the site and they were impressed. Don't know if ant joined though. Thanks again,Chuck.

  3. I've had a '84 Venture Royal up for sale since April in the classifieds and over 1300 views on it.I've had exactly 1 call about it back in April.....What is it about the add or the bike that's not having any reply's ????? I'd like to know what I've done wrong.I don't think I've PO'd any body or have I??:confused24:

  4. I'm not sure what happened but when I checked on my add for my 84... It said that it was sold. I'm positive I didn't hit the wrong key when renewing my add.Is it possible for someone else to do this...maybe as a prank?:confused24:

  5. I had the exact same problem...except I'd broken the "Ball end" of a bondus allen off in the socket of the bolt.Needless to say ...I was screwed!!! I work maintenance and have to think outside the box ( as we never seem to have the right parts when you need them). Anyhow, what I'd done was to find a socket (a 12 point) that would, when driven onto the HEAD of the bolt, act as an exterior remover.I'd put it on an extention and drove it on.The impact of the hammering it on helped to free it up and I was able to turn it out. This was after I'd spent about $50 on allen wrench sets to do the job.I'd done this as a last ditch try as everything else I'd tried failed...what the heck, you have nothing to lose.Lots of luck!

  6. This is on my '84...Once it gets warmed up,it wants to bogg/stall out. When I come to a stop and crack the throttle..it'll act like it's out of gas. It always starts back up though. It never does this until I've gone about 20/30 miles. If I keep it reved up,say 1200 plus RPM it won't stall. It almost acts like you've got the choke on???? It just started doing this all of a sudden.I've run about a half can of sea-foam thur it in hopes that would cure it....no luck.I appreciate your help.:detective:

  7. :fingers-crossed-emoThe rear brakes are bled and are working pretty good.I seem to still have to pump them once to get super braking, but just hiting them does the job.I did the I.V. bottle trick I'd seen here long ago...I bookmark the problems I'd think I might be running into. Thanks to all that gave real good advice. Now I seem to have run into another problem.Keep in mind that I haven't rode this bike regularly,I usually rode the 89. I'd take the 84 out on occation ..maybe 4/5 times for a 30 mi. ride. Now, once it gets warmed up, it wants to stall at stops. It doesn't do it all the time. The last time I had it warmed up,I'd gotten back home an in the garage and it stalled there.I started it back up and went to rev it up and it wanted to shut off like it was out of gas each time I cracked the throttle. At idle I cracked the throttle a couple of times and each time it wanted to stop. As long as I kept it above 2000RPM it wouldn't bog down when the throttle was cracked.I've run seafoam thru it( half a can per tank) and still does it. Any advice on what might be the problem?

  8. I've been bleeding the rear/front brakes for a week and still not much difference.Today I did it again...and if I "pump "them up ,I have good brakes until I get stopped...but when I go to use the foot brake again, say within a block,...NOTHING!!!(or very little). There's no leaks...replaced all brake pads (used kevlar pads) rebuilt rear caliper...put speed bleeders all around..Disc thickness is .331 (plenty thick) ran a 1/2 qt of fluid thru the system????? It did feel like the brakes were fading off as I held them down...(This is on my 84 venture)The only thing I can think of next is to rebuild/replace the rear master cyl.The repair manual says to replace the proportioning valve when yor rebuild the master cyl...anyone else have this much trouble?????

  9. I have had the Oddesy 680 and now a DEKA and both worked very good. I put the Oddesy in my son's 86 and am running the DEKA. I have been in some hot places with the bike recently and had to start it hot and the DEKA did fine. With a good battery and upgraded cables, these bikes do ok.

Where are you getting the Ventura name from?

    RandyA

    .....

jachuck49.....janet/chuck49 Part of both our name and we were 49 when we got our first computer......62 yrs old now.

  10. I think I remember that the tires looked fine...didn't check the pressure. Is there a way to check for a loose steering head? Would you put it on it's center stand and see if you could "pull" on the tire and see if there was any slop in it?

  11. A friend of mine bought an '84 VR and had me take it out for a spin. It's a handful going around a corner or a curve. It wants to jerk rather abruptly when your riding down the road and hit a crown in the road or any wave pavement , like when they grind the pavement for resurfacing the highway.I'm not sure what to tell him. Any ideas? Thanks.

  12. Evidently over the years..the backrest(passengers) on the trunk of my bike has gotten very dirty and needs cleaned.I've only had this bike for 2 yrs,so all this dirt isn't my fault.During this past summer I'd put the bike up for sale and had it sitting out in the sun. What has happened is...all the (probably Armorall) thats been applied has had a melt down.In various places the leather has sticky spots on it. It almost reminds me of the sapp you get on a peach tree. In trying to remove it I've found the true color of the leather....Outside border is a dark brown, while the inner panel is a lighter brown. Problem is...it's not all coming off and it's blotchy at best.Heres the things I've tried so far. Armorall leather cleaner...Spic&Span...Murphys oil soap..and even finger nail remover (in small spot) nothing seems to get it all.The sale of the bike could hinge on me getting it cleaned OR if someone has a all dark brown one for sale. If you have a good one for sale let me know what you'd want for it...my email address is jachuck49@yahoo.com Thanks.:(:(:(:confused24:
