  1. My wife and I have had the Starcom1 digital for 3 seasons and it is awesome. We opted for the handlebar wired remote so I can control all aspects for both helmets on the fly. It is very versatile and will support about any connections (phone, CB, MP3 etc etc) you can imagine. Very good quality stereo music and we have ours set up so when we talk the music continues, like talking at home with the stereo on...rider and passenger can listen to different music even, if you want....

  2. I have had an Ultimate seat on my RSTD for 3 seasons and it is great! You need to buy their rain covers too, though, as there is no plastic layer under the seat cover. I talked to them about this and they said the seat wasn't as comfortable when they had the plastic layer so they took it out.

     

    The Yamaha/Corbin Comfort Cruise is a torture rack....

     

    The Mustang repirtedly sets the rider up about an inch higher and further forward against the tank. I am 5'6" with a 29" inseam so I could not tolerate a higher position....

  3. I have the Starcom1 digital stereo unit for three seasons now and it is awesome. It offers complete control of passenger and rider volume (mic and headset) and many interface options. I added the handlebar remote so I can adjust it "on the fly". It interfaces with CB, Bluetooth, MP3 etc. - youy could set it up so you can answer your phone while riding, though I never would want to. :bluesbrother:

     

    We have ours set up so the headset music continues while we talk, like having the stereo on and having a conversation. Also allows separate music for rider and passenger, aux in, aux out etc. It is about the size of a credit card and sits easily under the seat. I wouldn't have anything else after having used this system.

     

    Just google Starcom1 there are getting to be a lot of dealers handling it....

  4. My dealer told me the "I" basket wouldn't help be cuse it was due to the square cut gears...

     

    The "I" basket sure did help my 2006 and many others on this forum.

     

    I think that either your dealer or the factory rep istrying to get you to just be quiet about it.

     

    The Yamaha Canada factory folks drug their feet for 6 months or so before I finally got my "I" basket. My dealer was on my side but they did everything they could to not deal with it. I even got one email from a factory rep stating that, "Noise is subjective. Some motorcyclists even modify their machines to make more noise. There is nothing wrong with your motorcycle." (Like anyone would add gear whine on purpose!)

     

    I suggest that you don't take "no" for an answer. Many have reported success by opening this forum for the dealer and having him look through the many posts about this.

  5. My 2006 RSTD progressed in a very similar manner, though a bit sooner in it's life.

     

    It got to the point that I was going to sell it or do whatever it took. People would come up to me after I parked it and ask what was wrong, they heard it when I pulled into the parking lot!

     

    Yamaha Canada finally coughed up an "I" basket after about 6 months of lies and obfuscation :mad:. It worked, it took about 80% of the whine away at all speeds. I then changed to Amsoil 10-40 Motorcycle Oil and that reduced it even further.

     

    It is always there, as it was on my 84 Venture Royale and my 85 VMax. But it is muted to the point that it just isn't a problem, in fact it's a bit re-assuring because I can maybe hear if anything begins to change in the drive train.

     

    Anyhow, that's what worked for me. And mine was the same, clutch it or even decelerate and it mostly went away.

  6. Been looking at the Radio Caddy as well. I have the flanders bars for extra pull back, and one of the man reasons I'm looking at the fairing is for better wind protection for my hands in the winter. How well does the Radio Caddy do for hand wind protection? If you have any pictures from the drivers seat that would be great.

    I also have the longer Flanders bars, the wind protection is great everywhere except a small area right under the fairing and over the lowers. Harley Ultras and Ventures both have an extra polycarbonate clear piece right there for that reason, I have been considering having something made to replicate what they do, but it's only been a problem on cold days when I was dumb and wore the lighter jacket.... :doh:

     

    I don't get any helmet buffeting until about 90 mph or higher, but I am kinda short (5'6) so it could be worse if you are taller...

  7. What I'm getting at is was/is it a constant chirp no matter where in the range you are?

     

    Mine the chirp will start at a certain RPM/speed in a given gear and then disappear when it gets above a certain RPM/speed.

     

    Example. When I'm in 4th the chirp will start at about 45 mph. and then will disappear when I reach 55. Then when I shift to 5th it will reappear around 65 and disappear again at about 71 or 72. Or, if I'm cruising along at 50 in 4th and the chirp is present if I back off the throttle a tad the chirp disappears. Then, if I roll on the throttle a bit it's there again.

     

    So mine comes and goes depending on where it is in the RPM range.

     

    Saw a video on this site the other day where the chirp sound is there all the time. No matter how fast or slow the engine was turning.

     

    Mine was kinda like that, but was loud all the time, even at idle. :bang head:

     

    It was louder at about the same speeds you mention. In my case, the "I" basket got 'er dun. :sun1:

  8. I had a fabricator use the stock windshield hardware and some strap stock to mount a Radio Caddy to my 2006 RSTD. Here are some pictures...after living with it for a couple of years I like it a lot but wouldn't mind if the fairing was nearer to the handle bars. If you want some better detailed pictures of the mounts I have some at home, IM me with email address and I will send them to you.

  9. When I got my 2006 back with the new "I" basket, I could tell the difference just by starting it and blipping the throttle a little bit. But then, I had a really bad "screamer".

     

    The new basket knocked about 80% of the noise out, Amsoil another half of what was left. It's there buit I have to listen for it now. No big deal.

  10. My 2006 Tour Deluxe was a "screamer" too. It was brutal! The I Basket knocked about 80% of it out, Amsoil helped even more, it's no longer a problem even though it is there. Mine started at about 1000 miles, I now have about 26,000.

     

    I changed to a 130/90 tire in front, put the Baron's lowering and gold valve kit in front, and changed the stock rear shock for a Works Performance unit that also raised the rear about 1 inch, which ends up being close to the same geometry as the leveling link. Also Avon Venom tires. The bike handles a LOT better, it's an entirely different motorcycle. It's easier to like it now.

     

    That being said, it's your bike, not mine. Either you like it or you don't. Good luck figuring that out for yourself....if not then :mo money: at your favorite brand of new toy store..

  11. I run 42 PSI Front and 47 rear on my Venoms. I had let them get down low like yours once and experienced some of the same, though apparently not as bad. We seldom get 90 degrees where I ride.....

     

    Also, new, heavily applied tar-snakes are greasy when it gets hot, doesn't matter what tires or what bike....only help for that is to miss 'em or slow down....

  12. If anyone dives in and tries this I would sure like to hear how well it works out.

     

    I have a 29 inch inseam and Ultimate seats now, and with the new Works Performance rear suspension unit, I am "tip-toe" unless the wife and a lot of luggage are on with me.

     

    I have lowered the front but am resisting doing the back, I really liked the improved handling from the 1 inch rise the Works shock gave me. When the stock shock was on and with no air (lowest) it felt like I was dragging a huge anchor around.

     

    Also I like to bend some corners occasionally and dragging hard parts has never been on my bucket list. :-)

     

    Please if anyone tries this seat, post results out here!

  13. I bought some closeout billet wheels directly from Jardine for my 2006 RSTD. They were for the early model (1996-2000) also and my local Venture expert assured me they should fit.

     

    The front is great, but the rear was offset to the right so far that the tire rubbed the swingarm.....I have attached a picture showing the offset.

     

    Now I should emphasize that these two wheels were close-outs from their "dusty" shelf, they were getting out of the business of billet wheels. I paid under $700 for the pair...

     

    Jardine was willing to work with me but I am in Canada and shipping etc. was going to get expensive, relative to my investment. So I just got a stock gray Next-generation Venture rear wheel, polished the sorta already shiny rim edge until it matched the luster of the front billet wheel and used it instead. 99 out of 100 never notice the difference, because all you can see is that lip that I polished out...pic attached with the rear Venture wheel on...

     

    I still believe that the wheel should have fit and was mis-manufactured somehow but since you asked I thought to share my experience with you. I suggest that you get approval to return them if they don't work out (if possible).
