  1. Ferrantelli, don’t you have your tire size wrong for a 1st gen venture? It should be a 16 rim.

I have both a 1st gen Venture and a 85 VMax. They both have new tires on them. When one wears out I am going to try to switch the VMax rim to the Venture and mount a c/t. I will post back to this thread. It may be a year from now. The VMax will get a different rim and chain drive, but that is a different forum.

  2. ctraylor, no spot is good if you get rear-ended. It will be low enough to miss most bumpers.

Gearhead, I don’t think it will be higher than the fuel pump. I may have to add a second fuel pump.

    Boomercpo, mind your own business.

Friesmen1, I try to stay away from cities, but yes I have thought about mounting it on a 1 ¼ inch receiver hitch. I commute 50 miles to work the extra range will be nice so I don’t have to fill up every other day.

Barend, yes I do have a Iron Butt, just got my certificate for a 1500 mile ride in 36 hours. Fuel situation- It was rare for me to find fuel

Friesmen1, If I ever get to the big IBA rally that gas can holder will not pass tech inspection.

Thank for the replies, Sorry if my bad mood came though, I lost my 14 year old black lab today.

80 KZ 1000, it is a memorial to my younger brother whom I inherited it from. From a picture, I had a mural of him and his bike, painted on the back fender of his bike. The art work was done in Sturgis. The picture was taken in Sturgis of him standing next to his bike. This bike only gets ridden a few times per year. It is mint condition and all original. He would get compliments on it driving it down the main drag of Sturgis.

(dang, no digital picture, I will have to get one.)

    On my dream sheet is

    KLR 650

    A customized road glide

“I say every biker needs 6 bikes:

    a) touring bike for trips with the wife/so

    b) Beater run around town/errands

    c) show bike fancy low miles

    d) old bike (1st gen) for nostalgia

    e) full dirt bike for the desert

    f) dual sport for hunting camping

Now all I need is the funds. Rod”

I will do it with 4 bikes. The Venture is the touting and beater bike. KZ is the show bike and nostalgia, KLR will be the off road bike. My ATV is my hunting rig.

Almost forgot. Somehow I ended up this this bike. It runs to good to sell. I am going to teach my girl friend how to ride next summer.

I like the summers also, here is the view from my front deck. It make the winter more tolerable.

P.S. Mike, sorry I stole your thread. I'll stop now.

  5. I am looking to put a car tire on the back of my 87 Venture. Can someone point me in the right direction of someone that has done this? I need to know what tire will work.

My intentions are to stud the tire and ride the bike this winter. On the Motorcycle Tourer’s Forum I have seen a rider from Alaskan do this with his Gold Wing. I am still trying to get in touch with him.
