  2. So I have been a Yamaha guy most of my life,160 Honda Dream,'66 Honda 450 and then a '70 XS650 but in '80 I bought a XS1100 Yamaha Special that I have ridden ever since. Been with the bike almost 31 years,it does the job, very reliable..low mileage 82000,so have many of you bought the Venture when they first came out and still have them?

I have read horror stories of what po's have done to the XS's...if you are the orginal owner I would be interested in your thoughts as I might look into getting one.Just a maybe as a back up bike.

  3. We've all been there, where to ride, been there, done that so I just hop on the old bike and decide to follow where my turn signals go blink blink blink.Southwest OH and southeast IN on a short ride but I thought I would just take a few pics along the way for the fun of it.

I think it was october last year so I pop up out of my hole in the ground to make sure it is safe to ride..

Just a two hour ride to nowhere but it was worth it.

Short rides and a few overniters is about all I have time for but I always look forward to them.http://www.ohioriders.net/images/smilies/ridingmotorcycle.gif

  4. Hey Monty.Haven't been here in years.Jeff is a big question mark? Hope he is all right.

Guess I will have to stay on topic on this site vs UJMhttp://www.ohioriders.net/images/smilies/07302010/camping.gif

    Be seeing ya around:-)

  5. Well I just signed up..here I am with your gran daddys bike.

    http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/DSC_0925.jpg

You should have bought an older bikehttp://www.ohio-riders.com/images/smilies/cruiser.gif

  6. What a great picture of that XS Adventurer. It looks so much like mine. I have a Pacifico fairing and KC bags and trunk. But mines an XS Special just like yours. I'm also pulling a Velorex 700 sidecar with it.

Well I did kinda do the Beverly Hillbillies thing last oct.

    http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/DSC_0006-1.jpg

  7. Did the XS Venturer use a vetter faring? I had always assumed it used the Yamaha style.

I think I will leave my XS naked, now that I have a Venture in the works. Someday I will get a wiseco big bore kit and keep it as my hotrod. The venture takes it in the "style" department though. Cant wait to cruise on it.

I believe the XS Venture had the Pacifico fairing which I never did like the looks of it.

I have the Special which has a leading front axel, different exhaust and a few other things so I built my own touring bike....sorry about the quality..picture of a picture on the living room floor:-) early touring bike...

    http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/DSC_0042-1.jpg

and then I got the Vetter with the lowers put on in the fall and winter months,Yamaha luggage rack with adjustable back rest, soft saddle bags, moved rear turn signals to plate bracket, hwy pegs, fork brace and a few other things..while not a true Venture it is exactly the ride I want, been coast to coast on it,still low mileage at 77,000.

Ivan have you been to http://www.xs11.com/forum/ any 1100 question you have will be answered.

  8. Quit in'88 after 25 years...still want one once in awhile and have nightmares about smoking but you have my permission to witch slap me if I start again.Wasn't easy and hated people who said "If I can do it so can you" Self Rightgeous ***holes. To me it was getting in the habit of NOT smoking. I can have coffee and beer and not want a smoke...lucky..plus a wife who would have kicked my *ss if I did..If I had to do it alone I would have failed.

  9. Thanks for the replys. Wasn't sure about making the post on here but I knew several people had these old bikes and then went on to the Venture and looks like some memories came alive:-)

I built my bike also, didn't like the factory fairing or bags and set it up how I want it.So after 28 years it's still motoring, all original, clutch, starter etc. and the carbs have never been touched.

  10. Ok we are the sparkle in Yamahas eyes way back before the Venture was on the road,we are still out there on our old XS1100's racking up some miles...a few of us from Cincinnati OH got together for a fun ride sunday and would like to share...we are dedicated to our bikes as you are to yours...

We are your beginnings and are still out there..shows you how good of bikes we,you ride.

    Bill

  11. So I am guessing this would be even more out of place for a campout even if you could get a bike there:shock3:Colorado in the winter can be a bit tough...

  12. Well I went back to the test section to try and figure exactly why I am an idiot and can't post a picture like I want to...I did a couple of train pics and the view numbers were higher there than any motorcycle pic I have posted.......are we a bunch of train buffs in the closet?:) If so I took this pic last febuary on my way back from LA on Amtrak and thought it would be the perfect camping spot, park the bikes, have a nice fire, grill out,do a little fishing,do a midnight skinney dip,and maybe go back a hundred years we would be pulling up our horses..........
