  1. Thank you for your input, you are one of very few who eve take the time to respond. Having said that, this far from the first time I have not received any response regardless of a single or double post. It's at time like this I question the value of paying for this site. One would think others have had similar issues to many issues I have posted about. I can't have the only older RSTD. On the bright side, I'm learning more and more about my bike and how to take of many of the issues. Again, thanks for your input.
  2. An update. Since no one responded I took the headlight apart and yes, there is an inline fuse in the housing for the light bar. In my case the fuse is fine and I did get the lights working but as soon as I put the headlight back together they quit again. I suspect a break in the wire so will pickup a new fuse holder and once I get it working, will relocate the fuse to and easier spot to get at it.

  4. Okay, still trying to decide no, discover why my light bar ain't working. Saw a post on another site that says there may be an inline fuse housed in the head light bucket. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

  6. Does anyone know if the ignition contacts on a 98 RSTD can be cleaned without having to break into the ignition case? Thanks in advance.

  8. Ok. Where is the vent? I tried googling and if it's what I think I saw, does mean taking the gas cap apart.
  9. Okay, so here I am again with yet another issue on my 98 RSTD. It's running great, but every once in a while it just quits, usually at higher speeds. Sometimes I can kick down a gear and it basically "jump" starts, other times it just quits and I have to pull off the road and try to restart, which it will do...eventually! So has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking faulty kick stand sensor or even faulty ignition. Thoughts and thanks.
  10. I'm perplexed! I lost my highway lights, so checked fuses, ok. Took lights apart and while there is power to the slave (left) light, I can't get a power reading on the right, switch side. What confuses me is if there is no power at the switch, how come there's power to the slave? I'm thinking bad switch. Thoughts and thanks.

  11. Thank you. I haven't done that. Will try to find someone who can.
  12. I have noticed a vibration, almost an up and down feeling on hard acceleration on my 98 RSTD. Is this normal? Air pressure is good both on both suspension and tires. Front end is tight with no wobble. On smooth acceleration there's no vibration.
  13. So after nearly a month I finally fixed the issues with my RSTD. Replaced and relocated the fuel filter after fighting to get it out of the original position, what a poorly thought out placement for something that requires changing annually or every couple of years. Piss poor design! As for the sputtering and loss of acceleration power, turns out the huge, ugly air box wasn't properly attached. The bike is running better now than it did last year when I first purchased it. On top of increased power no more decel backfiring beyond what might be expected. I'll fine tune the air/fuel mix to see if I can rid it completely. Also now have to reset idle. With the repairs it's reving a bit to high at idle. To those who reached out with thoughts and ideas, much thanks. God bless and have an awesome riding season!

  15. So I’m still looking for help with the sputtering, power loss and quitting issues I posted about in earlier posts and freely admit I’m beginning to wonder about the value of this site. After more consideration I’m wondering if maybe it’s the fuel pump relay. When I hit the start button I’m not getting the clicking of the fuel pump being primed. Even with the downloaded service manual, I can’t find this relay. Anyone know where it’s located on the 1998 RSTD? I’ll post this is more than one place in hopes someone will see and know the answer. Thanks in advance. Precious
