  1. Did you buy it at Vey's or did you buy it at MotoWorld?

Vey's had a grey one a few months ago that they were trying to pass off as a TC that wasn't a factory TC. I was there last year when they got their Venture's in and I had to show them how to use the fwd/reverse function. If you got it at Vey's you may need to press them to get it done right.

I have had nothing but good experiences at MotoWorld and if you got it there I would think that they will do their best for you.

  2. Try completely unpairing your phone from the bike (delete the entry on the bike for your phone and on your phone for the bike) and then rediscover and re-pair it. Mine got flaky after the update to 12.06 and I had to do that to straighten it out.

So yesterday I unpaired and re-paired my phone and the system worked just fine, but this morning it wouldn't work again. If I have to un-pair and re-pair every time I start the bike things are gonna get frustrating pretty quick.

  3. Is anyone else having issues with the voice recognition? I used to be able to tell the bike to call home or play music, but that went all kinds of weird after I updated to 12.06. Now when I tell it to call home it comes back with "Entry not in phone book" or "Say a name or number" and when I do say a name it pops up with options on the screen that are all wrong. Also, if I manually search the phone book and manually place the call, the person on the other end can't hear me.

Just to make sure it wasn't my microphone, I plugged in my wife's helmet and got the exact same behavior. So I went in and turned off voice recognition, turned it back on and everything started working again. I thought "OK a little glitch that I can deal with". NOPE.

On the ride this morning I tried to make a call and got the same run around. I turned VR off and then back on and still got the run around.

Any suggestions before I contact Yamaha?

    Thanks,

  4. Puc...OMG! This 997 (964 corrected, lol) pound behemoth, is freakin' CRAZY! I am quite stunned.

I went up to the Hockley Valley around 4:15 am this morning, because I have never ridden Charlotte in the dark. I wanted to see the dash, the low beams, high beams...and was very interested...(never had a bike with low zone running lights) to see how the running lights illuminated the night life. They were simply spectacular...they light up 45 degrees right out from the Shark's Head, to about 50 feet...and then the lo/high beams take over. I'll always have them running in the PM.

BUT...but..THAT was the least of it. I get up to roadways, that my friends and I terrorize on our Sport Tours...and I turned left onto the road from Highway 10...and prepared myself with Char-Burger...by doing wallow and s-moves on a strait away. Felt solid...felt good. I then entered my first S-Back...with a lead in of 35 degrees...and then outbound at 25 degrees...and she stayed where I put her at about 35 MPH. Ok....I got a little more aggressive...and I won't bore you...but only to say, that by the end of my coming out of the Sport's Tour Sunday Circuit...I was almost knee scraping at curves at 50 MPH...and YET...I did not ever hear a scrape on the floor boards. This bike is so...svelte around corners...PUC...she floats around them...and does not squat down on her forks or back end. I don't need another bike...and am seriously thinking about that. The Star Venture Trans Continental, will tear as much *ss, as you require...and then...then...take you out to Vancouver, for a bowl of Clam Chowder.

Puc.....this is one H*LL of a bike...a solid, non-flexing frame, a kick *ss 113 cubic inches of torque pie,...and in Sport Mode..of which I ran this morning.....well..."I don't need no stinkin' Sports Tour".... :)

You should see how the night lights up with the addition of the accessory LED lights added. 6 lights on the front makes for some great illumination.

  5. Yamaha has released the 12.06 version of the 2018 SV Infotainment System Firmware/Software/Whatever. Get it here:

    https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/transcontinental-touring/pages/infotainment-software-update

According to Windows, it's 599 MB in size.

Did the update change anyone else's clock time? I started at 12:50 and it took 20 minutes to update. When it rebooted the time was at 5:10.....That just seems odd to me.

  6. I have some great news, I just read a review on the 2018 Star Venture and in the review it was revealed one of the riders dropped a Star Venture in a parking lot and the bike only falls about 45 degrees with no damage.

That is the first information I have read about tip over and the results. I have read where many were concerned about no tip over bars on the rear but the bags are bolted on with four bolts and they have a plastic piece that protects the bag in the event of a tip over while the front does have a nicely hidden crash bar.

Here is the the review: http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/yamaha/2018-yamaha-star-venture-first-ride.html

It's a bear to pick up though.

  7. Come to think of it, I have no idea where the XM Antenna is on the bike. That said, signal kicks in pretty quickly once the system has power. I've never had an issue with acquisition. And it's very nice to have tunes out in the mountains, where FM signals and smartphone internet access can be wanting...

Just so ya know, the XM antenna is at the top of the fairing just under the windscreen. I sometimes have issues with dropouts in the morning when heading due North. I think that's because the satellite is behind me at that time of day, but I'm not sure. I do know that when I'm heading south in the evening on the same path, the dropouts are alot less.

  8. Most are reporting a very lite feel to the bike's handling. My dealer reported that they just got back feedback from delivering a grey T.C to a client. He called in after his first ride, to rave about how much lighter is the feel in turns and banking, over his late model Gold Wing, he just came from. I'm coming from a 2008 Gold Wing myself, so will anticipating my first ride, hopefully by next week's end. That's of course, if there is no snow, or salt splayed upon the roadways....

I can vouch that it is NOT top heavy. It doesn't fall into turns like I thought it might, it really feels like it's easing into turns at any speed. The center of gravity is really low and I just love riding it.

  9. So I had the shop do the 600 mile oil change, but I usually do my own and was a little nervous doing the 4,000 mile change this weekend. The part that mad me really nervous was that I wasn't going to use the Yamaha oil filter and guessed that the K&N 303 would work. So here's a little break down of my experience.

There are 3 drain plugs and 2 fill ports: kind of painful, but OK. The oil tank drain plug faces straight down and that stuff comes flying out quick so you gotta be ready. The other 2 drain plugs face the frame so you aren't getting a ratchet on either one. They weren't too bad to access though (especially if you have experience working on the Roadstar).

The oil filter on the other hand was a pain in the badonka donk. I didn't happen to have the proper little bitty oil filter wrench so I ended up using a pair of channel lock pliers so get that tight thing off, but with hoses in the way it made it really tight to get in there.

The K&N 303 fit like a charm and this oil filter has the square at the top so you can use a wrench to take it off next time. This will make it much easier. Another good thing is that you don't have to start the motor half way through filling up to allow for getting all of the oil in. 3 quarts in the tank and the rest in the crank(case).

    Thanks for listening.
