  1. Ken, first check your connections to battery, also the ground cables. Battery voltage. Do headlight come on? In ACC I think all that might work is radio. If you tuen key on and ALL connections are good then need to look a bit deeper. If you do have the Aux lights they really need to be wired thru a relay. Also I make a relay that by passes the large current thru a relay instead of it all running thru the switch. The contacts in the switch are not hefty enough to really carry all the power needed thru it.

But lets check the basics first before we get to jumping to something else. If you need a hand let me know, I'm about an hour and half over in Sebring. Shoot me a PM and I'k get you a phone #

Thanks, DJH..... tomorrow morning will check the fuses, but at this point everything points to the ignition switch. After eliminating everything else will remove the switch, via drilling out the bolts which yamaha "in their wisdom" made removing them a pain in the ass, and taking apart the switch. If it can be "repaired" will do so, if not will order a new one. Cheapest I've found is about $200. the bypass wiring idea is o.k. I guess, but I don't want to go that route. But if things really go south, will PM you. Do appreciate your offer.

  2. Saw this problem a while ago in the forum, but can't find it now....

Turn the ignition key to on and NOTHING... no clicks no headlights, no dashbord lights, no turn signals no horn...nada nada on anything BUT the radio works. Tomorrow will check the main fuse. Not looking forward to it if it is the ignition key. Battery reads 12.5 volts on my installed led, so don't think it's the battery.

Shouldn't the headlights horn, idiot lights, etc work with the key in acc? in other words, what does the main fuse control?

So do these symptoms lead one to believe it's the main fuse or the ignition key.

    Thanks....

  3. Time to replace my front tire... currently E 3 150/80 -16. Seems they don't make them anymore and replaced with the E4. Interested in going the 130 route. The only E4's I can find are the 130/90-16. Will they fit on my rim? Dunlap appears to be having a $25 rebate on these tires until Oct 31 so I need to make a decision soon.... So will the E4 130/90-16 be suitable?

    thanks in advance...

  4. WOW So my phone had a mind of its own when I posted the response. LOL We are out of town this weekend. Will have to see what sorts out for next. Also I better check and make sure its the side horn. Is all chrome so I think it is. But I changed out both horns on the RSV.

    DJH... let me know...

  5. I went to Auto Zone and bought a set, high and low, automotive horn. Chrome tops exact fit, really loud. I think they were $12 each. They have loud and extra loud.. I got just the loud.

any part numbers or make of the horns you bought? I'm not concerned with a direct replacement, but don't want some big horn sticking out of the side of the bike. Open to all suggestions.

    thanks to all,

    Ken

  6. MAN Have I got a deal for you. I got one in the drawer of my tool box. Your only over in Punta Gorda, I'm in Sebring. So say we meet somewhere in the middle, something like Arcadia and have lunch on a Sat or Sun.

DJH.... Hey, I biking to Solomon's Castle this coming Sunday.... Ever been there? Great triip. Just a bit north of Arcadia. we can meet there. If you've got a horn, that would be icing on the cake!

  7. This summer going to put the bike into about a 6 month storage. On all my other bikes, outboard motors, I've always shut off the fuel and let the motor suck out all the fuel from the carbs. Been doing this on my 1400 Intruder for years with no issues, and my outboard was in storage for almost 8 years, started without any issues. Also put seafoam in the tank. Now I would assume I can do the same for my 99 RSV, but I thought I'd see if anyone else uses this method on this bike.

    Thanks

    Ken
