  1. ok, from S.G.s pics. I didn't find the pilot screw. The only screw there, is to hold the plunger bracket on to the rod that sequences the carbs.

So, I still need to find pilot screw. Have manual, but pic is hard to determine pilot screw with real carb. Even, using a spare set of carbs, cant

determine pilot screw. But, screw I did turn, is always all in, cause holding against rod.

  2. MJ44 Thanks, I got manuals with sidecar. Its a 83 venture with California sidecar, deep purple. Only test drove it once, to find out I couldn't drive it til shoulder gets better. Have thought

of taking sidecar off, but my luck, wouldn't go on correctly again.

Clive, "no sight line to the crankcase" is the answer I was looking for. Just didn't know how to mechanically ask the question correctly!!

  3. Patch, thanks. I hope I didn't miss communicate with kevin and his help. I would like to have assistance in getting carbs tuned, but I couldn't then, and still cant get my bike

to his place, do to injury. Maybe in 2-3 weeks, I hope to be able to be riding soon. For now, Im learning what I can about ventures, and running the bike 3x a day to get carbs

cleaned. If I had the correct vacuum gauge, I would try and sync carbs.

  4. Steven G. , your probably right. Though, I was wanting to try everything else first, do to my LACK of mechanical aptitude. I do this as a hobby. Bolt on , bolt off.

Though, I have now replaced a side cover with stator and gasket. Also, only the number one carb seems to have a vacuum leak, and may work itself out with seafoam in it.

Plus, carbs aren't sync yet. And those linkage screws are all the way in, which doesn't seem correct, so if someone can tell me where to set them to start with, I can start

to adjust the carbs. I thought about adjusting the vacuum between 1 and 2 to see if that would help with vacuum in 1 carb.

  5. Friesman, I'm looking for one of those. I have 3 mirrors, non with lights. I checked my oil container, and appears I put in 3.5 qts. Therefore,

I assumed, if look into oil fill cap, normally, should see some oil level. The point that I was questioning, according to my manual, if bike is on

center stand, then rear tire is up 1 - 2 inches, thus oil is in front of motor by window. Since I cant put mine on center stand, then the oil in engine

would be more level and read different. So, I didn't want to put too much oil in. Like Great White stated, since I don't have a lathe, and its hard to

get to anyway, can that idea. I was just surprised not to see the oil in bottom of the casing. Just curious, if anyone else has noticed that when they

add oil, they can see the oil in their side casing.

  6. I have a motorcycle jack, but couldn't figure how to get it under my 83 venture. The ex. pipes hang below the frame.

Does someone make an adapter plate to fit on jack lift, fit inside of ex. pipes and under frame?

  7. According to my manual, bike is suppose to be on center stand for oil change, and oil check.

IF bike is on center stand, then its leaning forward with rear wheel up. I thought it was funny, cause I have a sidecar, and getting

it on center stand is not likely!

Window looks full, but still don't see it by looking into oil filler cap. I put 3.8 qts in with filter change. Rick, what year bike is yours?

  8. Thanks, STeven G. I checked the linkage screw on all carbs, and they are all turned in; can only turn counterclock wise and back them off. Is this normal? Bike only has 7500 miles so cant believe someone adj the carbs that much all ready. Adj. carbs between 1 and 3, and 3 and 4, idle picked up, and have full response at throttle now, of course with choke always off. Full spark at #1 , but warms up slowest. Had friend take bike out, and he stated that power surged at 30 miles an hour. After stopping, and starting take off, bike was medium response, with surge of power again at 30 mph.

So, currently have it with #1 linkage screw backed off one turn, and all others turned in.

  9. Is there another way to check the oil, besides the window?

Should you be able to see some oil, by looking in the oil filler cap?

My bike only has 7500 mlles, but the window is yellowed, and a darker

color is on the lower 25% of the window. Plus, it has a sidecar, so window

is hard to see, and cant get bike on center stand.

    Thankyou

  10. Thanks, for the idea of taking the bags back to him, and opening them.

Thanks, Max, for the numbers. I will call a lock smith on Tuesday to see if they have key blanks or locks, and pricing.

I paid cash in person, picking up parts from a parts bike. The guy isn't really a bad person. He has a lot going on right now. Made a deal for spare key, then realized

wanted to keep both keys, and let me make a spare, which was ok. But ran out of time, so offered to buy spare key, but only wants to sell both keys together for $50.

Now, wants to sell all his remaining parts for $200, including keys, though I could make $500 selling them on ebay(his pitch). My point is sell me the spare, and you

    make the $500 on ebay!!!
