  1. So I went to my local Yamaha dealer and ordered two sets of LED directional lights for my 2006 RSV.

They sold me a Rear LED conversion kit and a Front LED conversion kit from Big Bike Parts and the load equalization resistors from Bike Master (#26-6242)

I installed everything according to the directions.

Prior to installing the equalization resistors, I did a quick test and the blinkers were flashing really fast. After installing the resistors they are still blinking too fast. Not "machine gun" fast as a previous poster said but faster than what I like.

Any ideas as to what my next step might be?

    Thanks in advance

    Pierre

  2. Thanks Mike and everyone else

Worn key, dirt in cylinder, lack of lubrication.

    Mike

    1) Worn key.. I am looking in to getting a new one

    2) Dirt in cylinder... How would I go about cleaning that out? Use a can of compressed air used on computer and push the little red "straw" from the can down into the lock and spray? Or will this cause further issues?

    3) Lack of lubrication. A friend told me to use powdered graphite... do you agree?

The lock cylinder can be taken apart, cleaned and greased up. How worn are the grooves in key? Do they look worn and rounded off?

    1) The lock cylinder can be taken apart, cleaned and greased up... Is this a complicated affair and where can I get info on how to do that? The greased up part... what kind of lube do you recommend?

    2) How worn are the grooves in Key? Do they look worn and rounded off?.... Yes

Generally speaking what kind of lube should I try? I sprayed WD-40 on the key and that didn't do anything for me

  3. Hi,

My 2006 RSV developed a problem over the weekend. When I put the key in, it won't turn to the ACC and ON positions. It does turn counter clockwise to the LOCK position but not the other way. If a play around with it a bit, it finally turns to the ON position and the bike starts and runs fine. The key is old and looks worn out. Is it possible that a new key from my dealer (since this one is the only one in captivity) would work. Or, is the ignition switch "hosed"

    Thanks in advance

  4. Sooooo....

My 2006 RSV has been running fine. NO issues starting. I pulled in to the gas station last night. Shut it off in neutral and filled the gas tank. I then turned the key on, pulled in the clutch and pushed the starter button. It sounded like the starter might have made half a turn and everything came to halt almost like the battery was yanked out. There are no lights, no radio nothing in terms of electrical power. I figure if the starter had jammed or seized, I would still have some indication that there is still power. But, NOTHING... The battery is just over a year old.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance

  5. Thanks

I will check that. Though, I am not so sure that will prove anything since it happens on both headsets at the same time

Another question.... does the music cut out too when playing the radio or ACC or just the intercom?

The music cuts out if the headset is selected but does NOT cut out if the speakers have been selected.

As suggested....check to see if your cb is turned on and at what squelch setting. This would affect music.
Already answered above. The CB is turned off. I got caught by that before. If it were on, it would cut out the speakers too.

    Thanks

  6. Hi

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try to address individually

Start with the obvious....it couldn't be that the increased rpm and speed caused enough wind and engine noise to activate one of the mikes....thereby "cutting out" the radio etc?

As I mentioned in my original post. The problem goes away out on the major highway at 70 mph.

On the venture the IC is not voice activated. It is always on. Just set the IC volume to a comfortable level. Once set the controler does not need to be in the IC position. It is always on. The mic will pick up and amplify engine and wind noise. A common problem causing intermittent operation is a faulty cable between the headset and bike.

See my 70 mph explanation above. And also, this happens in my headset and my wife's headset at the same time.

make sure the CB is switched off

It is. This is the first thing I checked. In the past, I have accidentally turned it on and the first thing I notice is the audio cutting out. But this happens on the speakers too. My problem now is on in the headsets.

    Thanks

  7. Hi...

I have looked all over the forum for this and I couldn't find anything.

I have an issue with my headsets. This started out last year sometime. I would take off down the road and everything worked fine with both headsets (mine and my wife's) on IC. After a bit of riding, we would start hearing engine noise in the headsets which varied with RPM. We never did anything about it at the time because we only used the headsets on longer rides.

Last Sunday, we headed up to Laconia and we put on the headsets. I half expected to hear the noise. This time it was different. I don't know if this is heat related or what.

Anyways, everything was working fine at the start of the ride. Then the IC started "cutting out". This was most prevalent when accelerating after a stop. At 50 MPH, if I completely got off the throttle, it would come back until I got back on it. Interestingly, if I went out onto a major highway and got going at 70 MPH, everything was ok the whole time we were at that speed.

Once we exited the highway, the problem would return as I mentioned above. Also, when we first observed the problem, my wife tapped me on the shoulder to pull over because she didn't know what was going on. We pulled over and talked about it for about 3-5 minutes. When we started back out again the problem was gone for about 5-10 miles then it came back. As described, cutting out at accelerating and cutting back in when I got off the throttle.

I have not wiggled any wires or anything like that yet.

Are there any ideas from the forum ?

    Thanks in advance

  8. A long time ago a former member named Pyro told me about a book/story about some guy... I think his name was Patches I am not sure. It tells of his history working his way up to his favorite Venture and riding it across the country.

Does anyone know the name of this story and where I can find it?

    Thanks in advance

  9. I have engine noise in headset when intercom is on, the noise will go away if rpms are low enough. any thoughts? I've asked around town here but know one knows a thing including the dealers.

I have a 2006 RSV. I did not have any problems at all in this area until this past weekend. I am getting the same engine noise in both headsets in IC. I have had the headsets for a couple years now and never had any issues. It recently went in to the shop for state inspection, new front tire and oil/filter change. So I don't think the guys in the shop did anything to cause this... The other reason I don't think they did anything is because when we started out on our ride this past weekend, everything was fine. Then, out of the blue, after about 20 minutes of 45-55 MPH riding, it started. It gets worse if I blow or speak into the mike.

This is only in the headsets, not the bike speaker and only in IC

  10. I have a 2006 RSV. Yesterday, when I went to downshift for the toll booth, I found I had no shifter. It was laying on the foot board. I stopped and slipped it back on to its pivot shaft and got home fine.

My question is... What holds it on the shaft? The shaft has a groove machined in it all the around about half way on its length. But I see nothing on the shift lever that indicates how it is held on????

    Thank you in advance

  11. I have an '06 RSV and it's recently devlepoped an interesting problem/glitch. Every once in a while the audio system stops responding to any of the buttons. The only thing it responds to is the volume control. If I push the up or down arrows, nothing happens, and the same holds true for the AUDIO, SELECT and CB buttons. If I hold the AUDIO button long enough, it shuts off then I can turn it back on. But that doesn't always fix it. I haven't been keeping tabs on when it happens, but I think it doesn't happen when I first start it cold in the morning.

    Anyone have any ideas?????

Also, is there any "system reset" for the audio system???

    Thank you in advance

  12. Pierre,

I might be able to help you out but I would need to know exactly what part of the seat is bothering you. I see where you have a midnight which should have one of the flatter seats as opposed to the pillow top. If the seat is burning your bottom in less than 120 miles or 2 hours, I have been successfull in cutting foam from the bottom to remove any crown in the seat and create a lower pocket for your tail bone. This can also be extended to provide some comfort for your privates. In other words this will flatten out the seat to provide relief for your tail bone to put the pressure on your sit bones. Then I glue memory foam in the depression so that the seat cover will fit. The memory foam compresses when sat on but then raises up when the weight it taken off.

But in order to do this you would need to send me your seat, where I can probably turn it around in a day or so and have it back to you within a week using UPS. I have been doing this for years now for free for friends, where I have more recently been charging a modest fee of $30 plus shipping both ways. I'm retired now and have the time and can use any extra money. Just a few months ago I modified a seat for CECDO's 87, where I have not heard anything negative about the modification. I also lowered his seat since he was a bit inseam challenged. The 2nd gen Venture seat can't be lowered as much as a 1st gen seat because of how the rear fender sits higher.

But for your back support, either a Utopia or DiamondR backrest will help out considerably.

Let me know if I can help,

    Rick

Thanks Rick for such a quick reply. Do you have an Pics....? Or will photos show anything anyway?

I am really interested in what you have to offer

  13. I recently purchased a 2006 RSV. I really like it. The ride is plush and I like all the other ammenities. My wife really likes the big back seat. BUTTTTTTTT... I am a big guy and the driver's seat isn't comfortable at all. It offers no lower back support and that hump on the front of it does a number on the family jewels.

Is there something more comfortable out there?

I can probably "break my body in" to the hump in the front of the seat but I need more back support.

I see there are driver backrests out there. I was hoping someone here might have one for sale that I can buy so I won't be out the full $250-300 for a new one if it doesn't work out for me...

    Thanks

  14. Hello...

I just purchased a 2006 RSV. Matter of fact, I traded my '99 Victory for it last Friday.

Anyways.. I've been hearing people talking about the new fuels with 10% ethanol and all... Some people have suggested that I put a fuel additive in from "time to time".

What is this additive and what will it do for me? If this is not going to mess anything up and work wonders for my bike, what brand names do you all suggest?

  15. I agree with yuo that these are the noisiest bikes I have ever owned!!!!!

It's only relative... I just traded my '99 Victory last Friday for a 2006 RSV. HA HA HA... If you guys call the RSV noisy, you should ride a early model Vic. With that torque compensator stuff going on.. when you let the clutch out in neutral, it sounds like someone put marbles in there...

  16. I have had my CD player for almost a year now with no problems. Road in Tennessee are OK with hardly any skipping but if I plan to ride in Kentucky I just listen to the radio or use my MP3.:2132:

    Hi...

I just traded my 1999 Victory for a 2006 Midnight Venture exactly like yours. Nice bike

Tell me something... I am assuming that you are plugging your MP3 player output into the jack next to the cassette deck. How do you close the door afterward and how do you control the MP3 player while you are riding?????
