  1. I installed the Baron's tach that fits over the front brake reservoir. After so many years, its still functioning perfectly, chrome is top notch. The placement is high and keeps the tach up within eye level as to not take your eyes away from the road. One of the best tach setups I've installed on any of my bikes.

Any chance you have a link? I cant find one listed for the Venture even though the pic on the JP Cycles page shows a Venture...

  2. The low fuel light starts dim and gets brighter. It generally begins to illuminate about the same time the gage switches to the counter. When the gage switches you usually have 5 to 15 miles until reserve. I would watch the gage more than the light as the light may be hard to see in daylight or may still be in dim mode.

    This^^^

I personally run my bike in reserve all the time. I usually fill up when the fuel guage removes the last segment at "E" and at that time it repeadidly takes 5.1 - 5.2 gal.

I fill up when the fuel light/Trip F comes on it only takes 4 gallons. When Trip F comes on I can usually go 35-40 miles until the last segment on the fuel guage goes off.

  3. Hey all, I'm new to the yamaha venture and so far the wife and I love the bike, the question I have is after doing the 600 mi. oil change using 15w-40w rotella the engine has some valve ticking on cold start up then goes away in about a minute. Is this a normal thing on this engine, or do I just have a valve set a little loose, oh yeah the bike is an 09. Thanks for the help.

I was getting the same ticking noise on cold starts running Yamalube 20w-50. The local Yamaha dealer suggested going to 10w-40. I changed it out this past friday with 10w-40 and the cold start tick is gone.

I also noticed some other things being "better" now with the 10w-40 but I want to see if this is the placebo effect.

  4. Gents-

Kinda in a pickle. I am changing my oil, the Yamaha filter that I took off is marked 5gh-13440-00. The new one that they dealership gave me yesterday is marked 5gh-13440-30. Looking at them they are the same size but the "30" seems better built, heavier duty if you will.

Ok to proceed with the "30"?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. Car and Home Audio has been my hobby for over 20 years now. The first problem with the upgrading of the sound of the Venture stereo is the fact that Yamaha decided to use small 4 inch speakers all the way around and a low power Clarion OEM amp. Harley uses 5 1/4 inch and 6 1/2 inch speakers of a little bit better quality and about double the wattage from a better designed amp, thats why they sound better to begin with. First off when looking for 4 inch speakers for the Venture...... if it will get wet EVER, use marine rated speakers. Not too many audio companies left making Marine rated 4 inch speakers these days. Polk Audio does make some nice ones (model # DXi400), so does Fusion Audio (model # MS-FR402)......(I have these in my rear speaker location). Next thing to look at is the Senitivity rating or DB rating(same thing) of a 4 inch (4 ohm) speaker. A higher number will indicate that it takes Less wattage to make them loud (that number is the actual decible rating measured with 1 watt driving the speaker at the design stages from the manufacture. Now.......that, that is clear as mud...LOL, any questions, please message me. I will be more than happy to ANSWER any audio questions. FYI... I have none of the Original Yamaha/Clarion OEM stereo on my bike. My in dash Radio, Satellite Tuner, 4 speakers, 2 Tweeters, Passive Crossovers, 4 channel amplifier and AM/FM Ant. are all aftermarket and sound terrific. I did all the work myself in my garage last winter. Have not had one single problem with it this whole riding season. The tape deck and CB/intercom are no longer part of the bike, but fixing the OEM amp and tuner was way too costly.

    Any pics of the install?

  6. Any one know where to get brighter passing lights, seems the stock Yamaha ones are not the best. Thanks

Which passing lights do you have? There are 35w sealed beam passing lights and there are 55w halogen passing lights. I have the latter and they are great at night.

  7. Greetings!

This year I installed an under-trunk light as well. I purchased it from etrailer.com along with the optional chrome bezel. I am VERY pleased with the output. Combined with the Custom Dynamics LED taillight, there is no excuse to not know I'm stopping. People hate riding behind me at night.

    Cheers!

  8. Hey, Guys. I'm back. I've been getting some miles in, almost at 8,000 now.

The way I installed mine was I connected the high intensity lead (cant remember the color) to the positive side of the lead going to the Passing Lights VIA a device called a Posi-Tap. From there I wrapped the wires in electrical tape and then coiled them down the brake lines. Lights are still working great. I do not have them set up to flash, just 100% bright all the time.

  9. Hello. My first post here. I have an 2008 RSV that I am the second owner, purchased Sept 2013 with just 2,600mi. I am currently at 5,500.

I have been upgrading the lighting and stumbled across drop in replacement fork reflectors for our bikes that are LED lit. They bolt right on and just need to make a small hole in the mounts for the wires to fit thru. They are dual intensity so you could have them run/flash if you like. I wired them for full bright at all times. When the bike is off they look like stock reflectors and reflect as such.

I have attached a picture. Its hard to guage the intensity but both my passing and highbeam are on in the picture. That is not a refection from a flash, it is the LEDs illuminating the light.

I bought them here from this seller. $17 shipped for 2.
