  1. I think it's the middle gear cover that has to be removed to get the slave out.

I still think I'd determine what is causing the leak before starting to fix things. Finding oil leaks does not have to be difficult. Clean it up, run it a little and take a look. You can also get ultra-violet/fluorescent dye designed to go into the oil. Then you can look for it with UV lamp.

    ...just sayin'...

Had a little pre christmas laugh. I read your post quickly and went... where the hell am i going to find a lava lamp :) just another late Wed.

  2. That's a first for me. Have never seen it before. What kind of filter are you using? Are you sure it's seating as it should? There has been a lot of talk here about some filters being redesigned so that they are not concave like they once were and not seating properly. That is the first thing I would look at.

The actual oil filter is fine and tight and there is no oil leaking out around it?

So as we pulled into the garage after a 4 day trip, my headlight goes out. saw it go. So, went and got new one and fought to get it in, saw that the green low beam wire was bare in a small section and liquid electric taped and then electric taped it. Good to go. Not. no light. so check fuse box. FUSE MELTED in Box Poof, wow, so pulled out pieces and scraped/cleaned out rest popped in new fuse and IT works. SO , should I be worried about this or is that normal.

Secondly, I was washing and waxing after the fuse issue and I happened to take the lower cowlings off, just to give them a good cleaning. The single inside bolt that goes into the cowling, goes into a nut on the cowling that is held their by a rubber gromit that has separated. Any idea as to what I should do the next time I go to take this off because fighting and cursing for an hour over a piece of ABS is not my idea of fun.

Thanks again for all your brilliant ideas and thoughts.

  4. I like the 395. It's a nice asphalt ribbon in surprisingly good condition. Starting from north to south, Bridgeport is a nice little spot to stop for lunch or gas. Bishop is a sweet little highway town that has Schatz's bakery for pastry and coffee. Best lodging there is the Creekside Inn. A little farther south is the city of Lone Pine, which has the Totem Cafe with a lot of pine log interior.

Perhaps after you have seen your friend, stop over for a visit, we are about one hour from the Laguna Hills.

Wow. Thanks for the info. We will check these out. I will give you a heads up when I'm in Laguna Hills.

  5. Visiting a buddy and going to the Santa Maria Rodeo. Thinking of going up to Fresno then over to the 395and down to his place in Laguna Hills. Is 395 a good route? anything fun to ride along the 395? We have 8 days. Any good HotDog stands along the way. We are there June 3.

  6. I would definitely use the north entrance. Old Faithful and its lodge are worth a visit. If you have time Jackson Hole is interesting. Sometimes the wildlife gets real up close and personal. I had a buffalo come out of the woods and run alongside of my bike for a ways. We were eyeball to eyeball. The last time we were there the elk were in the town as it was calving time. I noticed one elk with a huge rack. A ranger told me he was " Old number nine" that being the number of cars he had destroyed. I would go out the east entrance and on to Cody then up to Red Lodge via Bear Tooth.

Thanks for the info. Will you be getting off the Island and visiting the Bike show this weekend?
