Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 9, 2013 #1 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) I took the Venture for a long ride this weekend, and I have to say, the front Brembo single disk on the Ural sure has a better lever 'feel' then the stock front brake on the Venture. The Venture's front brake still works fine, but just feels kinda like squeezing an old wet tennis shoe. I have bled the brakes, so thats not it. I believe its the old rubber lines. Yes, the front brake lines on the Venture are the factory rubber, and 6 years old now. The Ural is 6 months old, and has a steel braided line. It sure has me spoiled. Easy to pull, no friction or drag, perfect lever feedback, and good predictable stopping power. No spongy 'pre-loading' as the stainless line does not expand during hard braking. (yes the brembo brake caliper and rotor are top quality, of course) I know that factory rubber brake lines deteriorate, as does the brake fluid and seals, so I'm thinking of an upgrade. I found a website that has a complete stainless front line set, for about $150...and while I'm at it, I might go ahead and replace the rear brake line and clutch line also. It goes without saying, I suppose, that all new fluids, and new brake pads would also be installed. Has anyone done this yet? http://spieglerusa.com/brake-line-kit-1591.htm Edited June 9, 2013 by tx2sturgis
Seaking Posted June 10, 2013 #2 Posted June 10, 2013 I tend to install SS lines on the front brakes on all my bikes for the same reasons you're liking the Ural's feel of the brakes.. it feels better with the feedback, less spongy etc However I don't install SS lines on the rear brake system. I found the RSV notorious for rear wheel lock up when aggressively applying the brakes so having SS lines to the rear would make it worse.. the added spongyness of the rubber lines gives you some leaway and for me at least, results in seldom ever locking up the rear when doing emergency braking. Adding progressive springs to the front shocks also reduces the amount of nose-dive when applying the front brakes, thereby keeping a lot more of the bike's weight over the rear end of the bike, reducing rear wheel lock up even more. I also installed a SS line for the clutch as well.. works great.. This set up works great for me, but like everything else, YMMV... Cheers
