Your a man with a good heart, and your always looking for the silver lining in every thunder cloud. You always seem to find it, and that gives me great hope with this issue your facing. I echo everyone else here, in sending good vibes to all of you, as this affects your entire family. I have no doubt of your ability to concur this disease and come out with much more wisdom and reflection on yourself and life. If it isn't too personal, where is the cancer? Prostate? Bladder? Kidneys? Not at all Blue, thanks for asking.. I figure that maybe sharing will help another person in our family (or anywhere for that matter) who finds themselves struggling with similar health issues as I have been going thru... I ended up at a Urologist because a recent E-Room visit showed traces of blood in my urine.. My PSA had been creeping up for a while now so the Urologist thought best to biopsy my prostate as long as he had me under for doing the Bladder scope anyway.. They found the cancer in my prostrate. The Urologist called the day after the tests to inform us of the cancer and wanted to move me to a 1 hour appointment in the near future (instead of the scheduled 15 minute followup). This all happened 2 days ago. I have a daughter who is a pathologist who is personally digging into the stuff to see what kind of cancer it is and all that (loading her guns to help her ol papa), then she hopes to be here for our followup with the Urologist to assist in option selection.. I am very very impressed with how open and co-operative the hospital is being with sharing info with my daughter and her colleagues - THAT is awesome!! One of my daughters immediate concerns is that nothing has been mentioned (was only a 2 minute phone conversation with the Urologist) about the original findings of blood in my urine. Apparently, the "normal" course for Prostrate Cancer patients does not necessarily include blood in the urine.. Have not had the follow up yet so I am not sure what else they did/did not find BUT, anyone reading this - I have found out from my daughter and many other folks that most prostrate related cancers are very slow growing (not all though - some can be pretty aggressive - many "types" of cancers I guess) and that most older males will have prostrate cancer if they live long enough (not that I would wish ANY form of cancer on ANYONE = I find NO solace in knowing I am not alone in this).. Another interesting point of alllll this stuff is still the question of how it does/doesnt relate to the run down "feelings" I have been having since last summer.. The only reason I am even functional at this time is because of a small amount of Prednizone I am currently taking - stuff is amazing.. Apparently Pred is a synthetic adrenaline. I also have an appointment coming up with a Endocronologist (sp) - the folks who study gland functions - and will be seeing if, among other things, Prostrate GLand issues can interact with the Adrenal Gland.. Now, all that said,, something really cool is going on thru all this stuff,, little by little these doctors are fixing me up one step at a time.. I suspect that when its all said and done I will be a new man (I am running out of specialist doctors to have them fix something ),, I predict a very young feeling Puc full of peee and vinegar again who will probably be a real problem around here cause when I feel good I really dont mind doing a small amount of healthy :witch_brew::stirthepot::stickpoke: THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.. Like many many of you family members on here - I KNOW ultimately God has it all under control and, like everything else in life thru the years - THAT is the ultimate comfort!! I'm betting they have even better treatments now than what they had 20 years ago. My doc describes it as, almost all men will die with prostate cancer, very few will die of prostate cancer. Seems lately every time I turn around someone close to me (and you are one of those even though we have never met) is diagnosed with some form of cancer. I keep wondering when my time will come. Some I know have beat it, some have gone into remission and then it comes back, some are still going strong and others have left. My hope and wish for you is that you will not be one of the ones who leave. My brother-in-law has been fighting this battle for several years now ... he was given only months to live about a year ago ... then something changed and he's still living life to his fullest albeit not out of the woods yet. You know you have a problem and weak part, every once in a while you think your second gear is slippin, Seafoam can't fix it, and many of your friends have already been sent to the repair shop...and some may even get sent back to mother Yamaha before their time....but that does not mean you are headed to the scrap yard just yet.....you have many more miles to travel and people to inspire. Sounds like you got some of the best medical people (mechanics) watching your back (especially your daughter) and they have a full chest of metic wrenches, hammers, special mother yamaha tools, jacks, fuel additives and the sort to get you back on the road. Even if they need to split your case to get at that weak part, they know what they are doing and they don't need to read forums like ours to put you back together again......That is the most important part to ALWAYS remember. Sorry, I've been told I'm not the most sensitive or educated man when it comes to these medical and emotional situations....The way I cope is to translate these situations to things I know, understand, and my small brain can handle...pardon the weird Motorcycle metaphor...but it is being said with love, hope, and support. cowpuc Posted July 7, 2015 Author Share #46 Posted July 7, 2015 Rise and shine ya bunch of lop eared varmints, it's Endocrinologist day!!!!!! :dancefool: This is the day that the Gland guy gets a visit from Tippy and Puc, a day we have been looking forward to since that ER visit on 4-25-15 when, for some reason, my crazy body finally responded to something in a positive way. That something being a dose of Prednisone. Not long ago I was diagnosed with Sic Sinus, a weak signal to the bottom of my heart, which the Cardiologist does not feel is bad enough to warrant a pace maker. That Cardio guy could not (or would not) answer the question of whether adrenaline (thats what Prednisone is) would effect the signal.. A question for the Endo guy. Since that time and as noted in this thread, the discovery of my prostate cancer brings about a question or two also. For instance, we are now curious to know how the discharge of PSA (or what ever that enzyme is that is read in a PSA test = mine shows elevated) may or may not effect other glands like the adrenaline gland.. If nothing else, this may prove to be a very interesting part of our CTmedicalFWing - a strange form of CTFWing that, quite honestly makes me really long for the traditional type that we all love so well:crying: Truthfully, I hope no body is around to read this message and that all of you are out sucking the life out of your day by chasing the front wheel of your very own bike - be it a 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, Wing, Harley, Victory, Suzy, Spider, Slingshot, Guzzi, Lambretta or even an old Sears Moped.. For those who aren't and happen upon this post, any form of thoughts or Prayers Up today would be greatly appreciated!!
