jimmyenglish Posted February 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2015 Hi everyone, In removing my rusted to smithereens exhaust collector, the right rear header pipe broke off in the collector. What's involved in removing the rear header pipes? They're already disconnected bit don't seem to slide out too easy. Do I have to remove the tank? Thanks! Prairiehammer Posted February 14, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2015 Do I have to remove the tank? Nope. Just the engine.
MasterGuns Posted February 15, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2015 I had the same issue a very long time ago, that is I had to replace the rear header assembly on an 86 venture I owned while stationed on Okinawa Japan. What I did, rather that pulling the engine, I cut the tab between the two down pipes and removed each pipe (2 and 3 cylinders) one at a time. I also cut the tab on the replacement header pipe so I could install them one at a time. Once I had them stabbed into their respective place in the collector, I then tightened up the header pipes at the head. Rode it another 4 years without issue. good luck
