Not looking for debate on the why's or why nots of helmet usage, just making an observation. As for those speakers, I wonder if they make them in bullet style for a RSTD W/O fairing.... Eddie Posted May 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 12, 2014 I spent a lot of time and money trying to make the sound system better on my 04 , there just isn't any room for bigger speakers and thats the key, you can have a 1000w amp but with those little speakers its just a loud am radio. JohnT Posted June 20, 2014 Share #13 Posted June 20, 2014 Go to Crutchfield and check out the Clarion amp I am using. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020XC1410/Clarion-XC1410.html Surprisingly low impact on the electrical system of my 1st Gen. And it isn't much larger than say 2 packs of cigarettes. And very good sound quality for the size and cost. I have used both the Polk 401's and the 4" Bazookas. Either are OK as far as they can be expected to sound. It takes air movement to create sound, especially bass. The small 4" drivers do fall short a bit. But they sound good. Until and unless you over drive them without a cross over or bass blocker inline. Or tuning down the stereos bass level. So I now have a set of 20 year old Altec Lansing 5 1/2" marine speakers in the fairing where the old stereo and CLASS were. I have totally removed (and passed on to a member) the entire stock stereo and CB, as well as removing the CLASS in favor of my stereo. I have a Clarion CMS 1 head unit which is pretty good. Navigation of the stored music (thumb drive) could really be easier, but other than that I am quite happy with it. I see that now it is hard to find and has been replaced with the CMS 2. speakerfritz Posted June 27, 2014 Share #18 Posted June 27, 2014 couple of factors to consider a. can your electrical system provide the additional power for the higher power amp? b. try to find high power speakers that have high SPL. a speaker with 90db spl powered by a 10watt amp will sound just as loud as a speaker with 80db spl powered by an 80watt amp at the same volume level. Black wing Posted June 28, 2014 Share #19 Posted June 28, 2014 well that is the set up in my bike and works amazing, just because is says 300w dosent means its always drawing it, the amp will draw what it needs and even though it is much less than what a dual speaker system requires it is as small as you can get as a waterproof set up though on the power end you do need to run a thicker gauge wire to the accessory panel for the deck cause the factory wiring will not take it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rosie1965 Posted August 6, 2014 Share #21 Posted August 6, 2014 I ended up going with the amp Black wing linked to and the Kicker speakers. I went with the 2 ohm since the amp is ok with them. Also went with the JBL PRV 175 . Raining right now so can't do a road test, but holy cow does it rock the garage! I know to hear things well going down the highway you really need to be able to push the speakers. I know there are no heat issues with the PRV when it's feeding the amp. Also no heat issues with the amp. I went with the high side on the amp inputs. I wanted to use the pre-outs from the PRV bit it's only two channel and I may add some rear speakers eventually.
