Trailer hitch mounting question

Hi,

I have been looking at the trailer hitches available for my 06 RSTD and they all come with the round bar all the across to connect to the saddlebag brackets. But when I look at my bike, I see 2 bar/brackets with threaded holes in them. I have attached 2 photos of the bars.

Does anyone know what is supposed to be attached to these threaded holes?

Thanks

"Looks to me , you already have a custom hitch . your missing the ball mount. Thom"

That would be my guess as well. Here's a pic of what my reciever hitch looks like mounted.

From the looks of it it should be plenty strong. Are those holes threaded ?

Never mind I went back and looked and they are threaded. Can you tell how much clearance you have if you placed a bar across your mounts? You might take a ruler or other straight edge that would lay across there and measure up to the bottom of your fender.

From the bottom of the brackets, it is 7/8" to the bottom of the fender. The top of the bracket is slightly above the bottom the fender. From the screw hole to screw hole across is 9 1/4" .

If no one has ever seen anything like it, I guess I can try to contact the dealer that I bought it from and see if they can give me the PO info to see if they have any left over parts.

That looks like the mounts for a hitch that pulled some type of single wheel trailer, or maybe a cooler rack. Just guessing of course.

If it were me, I'd remove it and install the hitch that these guys sell.
