Can't you just see the expression on the bikers face just before impact! Can you believe a motorcycle killed this HUGE GRIZZLY? This grizzly was hit by a Harley on Lolo Pass. This is the pass between Lolo , MT and Kooskia, ID. Lolo Pass , elevation 5,233 feet (1,595 m), is a mountain pass in the northern Rocky Mountains on the border between the U.S. states of Montana and Idaho approximately 25 miles (40 km) west-southwest of Missoula , Montana . It is famous as the location where the Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed the summit of the Bitteroot Range via the Lolo Trail on their outward and return journeys in 1805/06. Look at the claws!

Actually this bear was hit by a Pickup truck. Some guy had some fun turning it into a Harley story and posting it on the internet some three years ago.

Sorry to ruin a good story.

OK on a pickup hitting the bear. That does make more sense because the bear was HUGE!!!!

About 4 weeks ago I was traveling back from Castlegar, BC with a bunch of collage kid and we came across an accident involving a Harley and a bear cub. Cub DOA, Harley DOA and rider and passenger survived with minor injuries (passenger with a broken leg). MC t-boned the cub and apparently drug it 50+ feet before tumbling. Road was closed for a while but didn't have the camara handy. NO WINNERS!!

Actually, it survived better than I thought it did, given how hard I hit it. I was running about 50 mph on a two lane curvy highway that goes from Johnson City, Tn to Asheville, NC in the mountains. All of a sudden this black bear ran across the road and I hit the brakes and slid about 50 feet before I hit him and about 50 feet after. You could tell where I hit him because he squirted apple butter everywhere. It was a hot day and I had the window down and yes, it went everywhere.

I t-boned him from shoulder to hip and I remember in that brief second hoping I did not get under him and him end up in the car with me, as I knew neither of us would have been happy about that. I remember as I hit him, he seemed to do a slow roll and go off to my right down a bank toward the creek. I had to go a couple of hundred feet to be able to get off the road and I walked back to see if I could see the bear. I didn't and went to the next house where they called the sheriff's office and a deputy and a wildlife officer showed up, but they could not find the bear.

There was a little damage with a broken light and dent in the hood, but this car had the bumpers that were spring loaded and when it hit, it bottomed out. With the stiff rubber strip that goes between the bumper and hood, when the bumper contracted, it pulled a strip of bear hair that was stuck between the bumper and rubber strip. Some of that hair stayed stuck there for a long time, as I was always careful when I washed it.
