What is a GOOD 3/4 Helmet?

I've been using $40. 3/4 Fulmer helmets for the past couple years. They're 'green' [probably reason for good price.

Mine gives me a sore spot on top of forehead after a few hundred miles, & Nav needs a face shield with hinge by ear, to block all air....she wears goggles with shield now due to dry eyes, but can't wear her glasses to see.

We don't want full style, just 3/4 for a decent price.

They are easy to find in catalogs, but that's like buying shoes from a catalog.

I don't like a face shield, but it's a necessity for Nav.

The visor is good for me to keep sun out, but Nav just needs shield with room for glasses, which are hard to find.

I can move ears & mics over.

Mine is easy, just a comfortable 3/4 & visor.

Nav is harder with shield allowing room for glasses & pivot at ear, to keep air out.

Any suggestions?

jc whitney had some on sale that had an indian pic on them that we liked but... quality of the helmet was yuk. So they are being sent back. I am also looking again for a good 3/4 that i can attach the com gear to. shopping through a catolog is not the way to do it. I will have to take the time and go try them on next time.

Hate to say it but your going to have to go out and try helmets on. That is the only sure fire way to get something that fits you right and is comfortable. I have used several different mfgrs, the latest being Gmax which we had on during our accident. I have had several differnt ones Shoei, Nolan, Bell. I am pretty happy with the Gmax, but it may not fit you.

1 thing to remember with helmets is that get something approved Snell or DOT. Once a helmet has been in an accident, throw it away, it's a 1 time deal.

. . . Mine gives me a sore spot on top of forehead after a few hundred miles . . .

Had the same problem with a 3/4 and a 1/2--concluded it was from buffeting, which I was getting when I rode with the face shields in the up position. Couldn't touch that spot on my forehead for a couple days afterward. With the shields down (the beam-me-up-Scotty position), no problem.

Eileen and I use the Nolan N41 Classics. We really like them. They have flip up shields. Mine is in the up position almost 100% of the time but she likes hers down. We both wear glasses with them and they work great.

This link has some details and pictures. I'm using it to show the models, I've never bought from this company and know nothing about them.

i kind of like hjc helmets.i always go to the dealer and try them on till i find one thats comfortable.color is secondary.dot approved is important.i have two full face helmets, and two 3/4 helmets.i wear them all depending on what bike i ride, and the weather. full helmets always on my sport bikes, and in the winter. i'm very picky about my helmets and how they fit. :2133:

Helments are like Motorcycles - they all fit differently. I wore Arai for a while and really thought I liked them until I tried on a Shoei J-wing. The Shoei fits my egg-shaped head much better. I also like the shield removal of the Shoei better. I switch between tinted and clear shields on occasion. Much easier to do on the Shoei.

Someone else said it - try them on they do not feel the same.

I agree with Freebird for a 3/4 helmet it would be tough to beat the Nolan N41. My wife loves it.

Or the newer model N42

This seems to be the one, where the shield attaches back closer to the ears & keeps out the wind.

[myself, I don't need a shield, just a comfortable 3/4, w/ visor]

Wife has dry eyes & needs to keep all moving air out.

Does this one do it, with the shield down??

I would say (because I have one) is a Bell Pro Police helmet. They have exceed DOT.

Seriously this is the best helmet I have everhad, comfortable, quick release strap and matches the bike! However I paid much more last year than this link I provided! :bang head::mo money:

And you can customize it how you want. Low rise, high rise, color, etc...

I had ordered direct from Bell Pro POlice which are now Max Pro Police:

I just asked my wife, she says it does.

However this is a 3/4 helmet although with a nice size flip up shield it is still open at the bottom. It will not be like wearing a full face.

If your getting a 3/4 with a full shield like that that pivots close to the ear, why not just get a modular? You get the protection benefit of a full helmet plus the ability to flip either the shield or the entire front of the helmet. I picked up 2 from VOX. They have the separate tinted, flip-down shade and weren't but $100. Got them for cold weather and ridin the Wing (headsets, intercom, etc.)

One last comment. You spoke of goggles. I also got my wife a pair of goggles initially (I had trouble finding a suitable shield) They are made specifically for use with glasses. I got them from Motorcycle Superstore

They are EMGO "Over The Glasses Goggles" and run $30

Now that I'm sold on this helmet, I can't find one. :confused24:
