TCI warming up then cr**ping out...

I just talked with the guy who bought my 84, seems like as long as the TCI (relocated on top of the air box) is cool, bike runs great. As soon as it warms up, bike runs like crap. I let him use one of my extra 1st gen TCI boxes and it acts the same but just takes longer to heat up and then start running like crap.

 

Anybody have any experience with this?

 

Anybody repair these PIA TCI's? Or is the new programmable box from Czechoslovakia the only real way to fix it?

The pickup coils may be a more likely suspect.

 

I would say you are better off with a new Czech TCI than investing in a used one. The drop out problems seem to be at a low level with not using the TPS settings on the Czech units.

Pickup coils not the problem. Only happens when the TCI warms up. When that happens and he switches immediately to a cool TCI, bike runs good till that one warms (heats) up. Told him about the Czech units and the possible cost,,,,,,don't know if he wants to go that high in $$ yet.

I put my TCI in the left faring.

It stays dry and never sees engine heat.

The stock harness is plenty long.

I have it attached to the inside wall with Velcro.

 

Might be a cheap thing to try.
