mm482 Posted August 15, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2012 If the cable is broken, the speedo head may be binging up from like of grease. If this is the case it will break the new cable. One of the members here sells a tool that make greasing the speedo head easy. Earl
campfire12 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks and i will check that. The speed-o was in good shape no bouncing or jumping around. Thats whats nuts. The cable had plenty of grease on it but i will check the guage just the same.

KIC Posted August 15, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2012 I think I have a speedo cable on one of my 84 parts bikes. I hope to go over to the bikes today so i will look.
Pegasus1300 Posted August 15, 2012 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2012 I believe all the cables are the same from 83 to 93.I know I have used and 83 on an 86. I have found that you can just remove the lower attachment, pull the old core out and then slide the new core in,greased first. This saves some hassel with dealing with the upper end. GaryZ Posted August 18, 2012 Share #11 Posted August 18, 2012 For future reference; Go to your local auto parts store and buy universal car speedo cable replacement. It has the same ends as the Venture. Simply slide the finished end up into the cable housing from the wheel to get the correct length, cut the cable and attach the end. PBJ Posted August 18, 2012 Share #15 Posted August 18, 2012 on the way back from Americad mine did the same thing only mine had worked loose and fallen out of the speedo . by time I knew what had happened the cable was pretty chewed up. Luckily I still had my 85 cable. learned soemthing new that day. the 86_93was redesigned so its easier to get to the cable and resintall it.
