MK1 bag removal

Hey.. how do I remove the bags from an 83 without the key ? The bags are open, but seem to be locked on the bike. I need to get the bags off so I can remove a hitch from one of my part bikes. I don't want to damage the bags.

 

Do I drill off the locks inside ?

Mine are the same key as the front of the bag to open them up. Maybe spray some wd40 to loosen up the lock and wiggle it until it loosens up, then slide it back and out.....or was that forward and out....

you might be able to take the crash bars that they are attached to, off. i know they come off, but im not sure you can get to them with the saddlebags on...

What is the key doing?? Try your other keys. I have one set of bags I can open with about any Yammy key.

I didn't get a key with either parts bike. So I need to get around the locks. I will take my 87 and 89 keys over...maybe a spare 83 key from my friend Ironhorse Ike.

Take the three screws out that hold the lock on and the bags will slide off. That is the way I remove my bags now as I am tired of working on locks.

I couldn't remember. I knew I had taken mine off when key wouldn't work. A lot of time can be spent on those locks but most can be saved. Key would help...
