The most effective control mechanism for me was dinner. No dinner till after ALL chores are done, this happened daily. It worked well on my kids to. The kids chooses to say home Friday evening, vacuming, dusting & dusting & dusting & dusting & dusting, cleaning windows, making beds, folding laundry. One way to keep them out of trouble. Today my oldest daughter a Capt in the Air Force. Son in the Army Special Forces. I asked my son a question after serving in the Army for about 2 years. What advise would he give junior high kids.
