Guest Slab_Ryder Posted September 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2011 I recently had a Baron's Tach installed on my 08 RSV. Prior to installing, I set the Cold ERPM at 750 (by ear (old Submarine Sornaman Training)), after choking when starting. Once Warm (after riding 2 blocks), the warm Idle ERPM increased to around 950-1000. After installing Tach, I increased the Cold Idle ERPM to 1000. Once Warm (after riding 2 blocks), the warm Idle ERPM increases to around 1150. Is 1000 ERPM considered an optimal range? Was 750 ERPM too low? gibvel Posted September 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 2, 2011 Service manual say 950-1050 for idle speed.

MikeWa Posted September 2, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 2, 2011 As you increase the idle RPM the trans starts to slam going into first gear. Since I don't like this I set my warm RPM just under 950. Mike
Guest Slab_Ryder Posted September 2, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 2, 2011 Good point. I set my Cold at 1000 RPM, once warmed up I was hovering between 1200-1250. Going to drop it down to 950-975 Warm, when I get off the road tonight.
N3FOL Posted September 2, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 2, 2011 FWIW, I've never looked at my cold rpm and not measured. I set my warm rpm on the high side of the recommended idle.
