alvald83 Posted June 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2011 Went for a ride today, and started noticing the handlebars sticking a little. I believe my head bearings needed to be repacked or replaced. Is the a tough job?
Sylvester Posted June 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 20, 2011 Since your profile shows a Gen 1, I can't say. But it is mostly about the fairing removal, etc. Go to the tech articles and do a search, you will find all you need there.
Freebird Posted June 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2011 It's not as bad on a first gen. You don't have to remove the fairing like you do on the RSV. Repacking them is actually an easy job. If they have to be replaced, that is more difficult. The hardest part is probably getting the old bearing races out.
Evan Posted June 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2011 Went for a ride today, and started noticing the handlebars sticking a little. I believe my head bearings needed to be repacked or replaced. Is the a tough job? I had the same problem and with the help of Mother, we were able to get at the top bearing without removing the fairning or forks. That allowed me to remove the top bearing which was dry and repack it. My plan was for that to be a temporary fix until I could replace both bearings. That was a year ago and the steering is still "like new". Just my own experience for what it is worth!
