Brake rotor question

Recommended Posts

Yes and no.

The rotor will bolt up to the wheel.

It won't work however with the MKI caliper.

The MKI rotor is 298mm in dia. x 7mm thick, The MKII rotor is 282 mm in dia. x 8.5mm thick.

The contact surface area of the pads to rotors is different.

The MKII calipers can be used if the lower fork tubes are changed to MKII's. The mounting bolt spacing for the calipers for the MKI's is 80mm, the MKII's is 100mm.

That is not a bad deal, they look to be is very good shape.

Also if you add the 4 piston calipers, you should also use a master cylinder from an MKII. The bore size is larger on the MKII to supply extra fluid to the masters.

Attached is a spreadsheet I made up when I was looking at doing this to my MKI. Shows caliper, master and rotor comparisons for various Yamaha substitutions.
