  1. Files Updated on 10/28/2009>> All Audio circuits now on main page, so that all schematics are now just one page. Other minor corrections done to all schematics. Text realigned for easier reading Some Line types changed for easier reading. Gary I have completed the 1st Generation schematics. My goal in doing this is to make them easier to read and reduce the number of pages needed to display the information. I have used color and line types to make the wiring easier to follow. In some cases I could not use the exact color that is being represented due to visibility and printing issues. For example yellow is hard to see on the screen and does not print well. The previous posting for the 1983-1985 models have been replaced by what is included with this post. The 1983 differs significantly from the 1984-1985 models in the areas of Flasher, Hazard, Starting Circuit Cut-Out Relays, the Hazard Switch, Canceling Unit & Diode Pack. The files for the 86-89 models that were previously posted have been revised slightly and are now at Revision B. Major corrections done included coils were numbered incorrectly in Simplified Circuit & the Flasher Relay Assembly has been updated to include flasher information. The 1990 major changes from the 1986-1989 models were the TCI, coil pick-up & fuel pump control. This post supersedes all previous posts I have done in regards to the 1st gen wiring diagrams. All 1st gen's are included in this post. The files will look best when plotted at 11" x 17" size or larger. Office Max and Staples as well as others can do this for you for a minimal charge if you want a printout. I paid $1.00 for an 11" x 17" color print at Staples. 83 Yamaha Venture TK Wiring Diagram Rev C.pdf 1983 Venture XVZ12TK From 1983 Yamaha Venture Owners Manual. 83 Yamaha Venture Royale TDK Wiring Diagram Rev C.pdf 1983 Venture RoyaleXVZ12TDK From 1983-1985 Yamaha Venture Service Manual 83 Yamaha Venture TK Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev C.pdf 1983 Venture XVZ12TK From 1983-1985 Yamaha Venture Service Manual, page 7-1 83 Yamaha Venture Royale TDK Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev C.pdf 1983 Venture Royale XVZ12TDK From 1983-1985 Yamaha Venture Service Manual, page 7-1 83 Yamaha Venture electrical info.pdf This file is a compilation of various sheets from the 1983 Yamaha Venture Service Manual that would be helpful when working with electrical system. 2. are there any ham radio operators in here (gotta be...). I am wondering what sort of 2m radios people have installed on a venture and if you cna make them work with the Yamaha headset? VE6HBY
  3. Just picked up a 2007 Royal Star Venture Midnight edition with 15k miles for $4500. While think it’s a great looking bike, it’s super heavy and doesn't seem to accelerate out of 1st gear like my 83 Venture Royal. Is this just me or do need a tune up? I was told it had never seen a drop of ethanol and always maintained. I also feel like this bike gets thrown around on the highway. I’m going to try the wider front tire, soon as I decide if I keep it or fix 2nd gear in the 83. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
  4. Good morning all, Anybody have any tips or tricks to get the Venture up on the center stand? On my Virago, I just straddle the bike and crush the center stand down as I pull back, that does the trick for the Vgo. I don't think I can do that with the Venture, lol. Thanks in advance. Don
  5. I have a shop full of 1st gen Venture parts for sale. Body plastic, frames, seats, windshields, wiring harnesses, tires, wheels. If you need it I have it. Send me a picture of what you need and I'll let you know if I have it and a price. Did I mention I have it? The Fundi.
  6. Hello everyone! I just found this forum a few minutes ago and decided to give it a shot. I worked a deal last night and got an '83 Venture. It's not running right now, but he has a clear title on it (big plus). I am looking forward to getting her home and getting started. I hope I can pick peoples' brains from time to time in case I get stuck on something. I'm including a pic of my "beautiful" basket case.
  7. Hello everyone I'm new here sort of introduced myself here and posted pics of my "new" bike http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?137259-Welcome-to-the-forum-Harddrv1-from-Fort-kent-AB. Anyway I built a 3d printer a few years ago and to keep costs low was wondering if anyone has any 3d models of fairing for the 84 venture if so I would be grateful if you could share them or email them to me, Im not a great modeler but I may attempt to patch mine up the best I can and scan them to make them printable if I can. Or redesign them if I can but I'm hopping one of you has done this already so I can just use your thanks in advance
  8. I'm looking at a 89 Venture at a dealer, and it seems everything on the bike works except for the cruise control. They called the guy who had the bike for a year prior to trading it in and he said it never worked for him either. Where would be the first places to start checking. Thanks
  9. I just bought a 1987 venture line driver backrest but i dont think all the parts are there, does any one have a parts break down of all the parts so i can see what is missing, i have looked all around and cant find a breakdown on all the parts
  10. My handlebars don't seem to be quite right. Seems like I have to reach a little farther than is really comfortable. I don't really notice it until a longer ride. It seems like the handlebars are *just* far enough away that I end up tensing up my arms, shoulders and neck. Once I realize I'm doing it, I can try to relax a little but usually by the time I've noticed I'm already in pain and it's too late. I ran across these for the RSV [ame=http://www.ebay.com/itm/200603911792?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&viewitem==&item=200603911792=&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1413]Yamaha Royal Star 1.5" Handlebar Risers Venture | eBay[/ame] and I'm wondering if they have something similar (or if these ones fit) for a RSTD. I don't think I need a whole lot, just need to move the handle bars about an inch closer to me. Thanks folks!
  11. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kTQ6wZlivo]YouTube - Goldwing Drag Racing[/ame] I really think if the riders had some real racing under their belts the times would have been a little better, but the venture did preaty good for a 500 cc difference.
  12. I was looking to get a new windshield for my 93 Venture and found them for $70 at Cycle RE Cycle in Indianapolis, IN. Has anybody purchased one from them or know anything about them? Thanks
  13. I happened to stumble across a Venture Touring Society (VTS) pin this weekend; kinda unique pin and organzation. I am curious, was this organization once VTS or what? If not, whatever happened to VTS? Anyone know?
  14. Got a lot going on and thinking of Dropping both the 08 Venture Royale and the Roadstar Midnight. Or at least the Venture for a FJR 1300 2013 ES. It just seems it would fit me better the way I ride and where I ride. I have hung out with the Concours Owners Group on some rides and I just like the Ability of that bike but not the few drawbacks it has. Considered a Triumph but ditched that Idea (1200 no go) So far as I look the FJR 1300 is near as perfect as I can get for single, two up and towing. So before I let my beloved beast 2008 go that I have spent so much time outfitting and buying everything Carbon one has for it (LOL) I thought I might ask if anyone has owned both a Venture and a FJR 1300 Keep in mind I am going for the ES model for sure. So any suspension woes you had, don't mention it, that is fixed on the ES. EVEN if you KNOW someone who had the FJR 1300 chime in. I may be letting the Venture go, package deal, trailer and all. I have a crap load of spare parts! Even spare Bags and Wheels and Diff and Fenders, Hard to decide what goes between the Venture and the roadstar, but Think I like one water cooled and one air cooled so thinking of keeping the Midnight RoadStar. If the dealer was open today and had one, I might have bought one today. I know one drawback is going to be the seating position. Legs tuck under and pegs instead of boards. Ugh,
  15. Hey everyone, I'm in the search for information regarding the cowling on a 1300 V-Star Deluxe. I like the new shape Yamaha has gone with, and considering the cowling on my '02 Venture has seen better days I decided to look into replacing it with a new one from a V-Star. I've contacted my local dealer for some schematics and called the corporate office but I haven't gotten too far. What I'm mostly trying to answer is: 1. How similar are the mounting screw positions for the two bikes? 2. Has anyone also looked into this, and received any better information? 3. Is the V-Star 1300 relatively the same as the Royal Star? That's all. Let me know your thoughts!
  16. New here but I was told by a friend that this is the place to come to if you needed information about the Venture. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question or if it's been asked but hey, like I said, I'm a newbie here. I just bought an '09 Royal Star Venture S. My question to you riders is, does anyone know somewhere I can pick up an after-market driver's back rest? One that is easy to install, able to fold down to allow a passenger easy access to the back seat and perhaps even removable for simple, every day local riding. My back ain't what it used to be and I'm looking for something for long distance riding. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance....... Bluez
  17. This I guess I'll never understand. The future of the Venture is in question. I went in to order some chrome for my 2009, and all but one part was discontinued. Now my first reaction was they were changing the Venture next year, and why make bling for a machine that is to be changed. OK, I guess I can live with that, but when I asked the sales staff, they knew of nothing. Same goes for the staff at the Star Tent at Sturgis this year. Now, don't ya think it would be to their advantage to get the word out to generate as much excitement as possible. Other auto manufacturers do. You can't really say it would kill the sales of the current 2011 Ventures, I've been in 8 stores over the last month here in Florida, and there are NO Ventures on the floor to sale. Harley has a big show of all their new an coming models at Sturgis, and you see in the news what is up and on the horizon for them. This is for a reason...it causes interest and excitement. Can Mother Star really be that stupid in the marketing field? It's not just them, it's all the metrics.. Wouldn't you love to know what's up? I sure would! I long for the day a non-Harley motorcycle company gets their sh*t together and starts to make the commitments necessary to become real competition for Harley, they already make a better bike, now act like it!
  18. This is pretty cool. Wonder if it would work on the Venture? http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/spider-led-light/
  19. everyone is buying aftermarket fairings. My question is why cant or wouldn't you buy a fairing from Yamaha for a venture, and mount it on a rstd. would this work?
  20. I was at the Home Depot electrical dept. today and spotted these, and my first thought was they could be used as a replacement for the rubber straps that hold the side covers on the MkII Venture. It seems to be a small bungee cord with grommet, and about the perfect size for the application. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  21. Well after talking to several members who have given their unanimous endorsement, My 84's seat is on it's way to Rick Butler for modding! I honestly don't know what I would do with my Venture if not for the members here. BEST $12 buck a year I EVER spend. Thank you all for you help!~ Andy
  22. How many Oklahoma Venture riders do we have on this forum?
  23. My Yamaha Stryker before modifications and after. and the Venture on the day I bought it. Wife and I decided we needed a Tourer so we picked up the Venture and the Stryker will be getting another face lift and become a solo bike for shows and my therapy time alone.
  24. I'm tired of it...it has snowed every single day this year... And I can honestly state that I have ridden my Venture every day this year..even with the snow..
  25. Looking forward to playing with the Venture I just got. 100% complete and it runs on ether. Looks like it's been leaking from several spot's for awhile and after this cup of coffee is done I'm gonna get back at making it roll. Trying to get it out a bit to see if the tranny is OK and whether or not it obviously is too far gone overall. If it's worth doing, I'll have the best running 500 dollar (purchase price) Venture out there by the end of the winter! Been wrenching a long time and enjoy the tinkering, cleaning stuff up, polishing and overall fun of not having to worry about riding ten miles down a dirt road that turns into a two track to find a cool camping spot. Have owned every Japanese make over the years as well as HD, the Yamaha's I've played with have always turned out to be the best ones. Rehabbed an 82 Virago 920 this summer and have that on the road still, a fun street fighter but not what I need to hit the interstate for a serious trip. At 52 this is my first ever bagger, I'm too burned out on the Then Came Bronson fantasy and as long as I aint wearing a sweat suit and riding a Goldwing my cred should still be good.
