1. I am trying to access the 1st Gen tech section and they are locked, cant get in............What gives? All of them are locked. I am going over to K-Riders to help him with his bike and wanted to acess the first gen tech section to look things up. I know most of what I need to do, but may need to fall back on it if needed.
2. Rear tire went flat the other day so I put the jack underneath and Proceeded to pull the rear tire and wheel from the bike which I have done many times before as I have owned 5 different Ventures from 1963 to the current 1999. Took the 4 nuts that hold the rear drive shaft and removed it. Replaced the rear tire and reinstalled the drive shaft the same way I have always done it. Put everything back together and now the trans is locked in neutral can not shift to any other gear. Does anybody any idea what I might have done wrong and how to fix it. Any ideas would be great Thanks
3. Well,it seems that Shari decided to have a Venture M&E at the house while I'm on the west coast..:bang head: Scooter Bob and Lady Firefighter showed up and then A1Bummer came over.... See ya in a couple of weeks at Wisconsin MD....
4. I am a brand new rider and just got my first bike. While learning how to ride at a relatively slow speed, I dropped my bike on the left side (into grass). Nothing appears to be broken on visual inspection, however I can't even push the bike when it is in neutral. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't push the bike in neutral? It shifts into first and neutral but not into 2nd or above. I am more concerned why the wheels appear to be locked up even in neutral. Feedback is appreciated
5. OK, Where do you think the gas went?? I went out to the shed today to start getting the bike ready enough to ride to go and get the new tires mounted. After a winter of sitting in the dark and the cold in the shed all alone, it did not want to start. It turned over just fine. But no so much as a fart. Hmmmmmm Then looking at the dash I notice that there are no bars showing on the gas gauge. Now when I parked it for the winter I filled the tank to the top with fresh gas with some stabil and some seafoam in it. I even got the gas from way up nort so that it would not have alky in it. So I opened the tank filler and sure enough, completely empty. There is no sign of gas having been on the floor, and the oil level is normal. So I added a gallon of fresh gas and it started right up. Benn watching it and still no drips on the floor. I don't think it could have been the neighbors, the shed is locked, the tank is locked, and a jug of gas next to the bike is still full. Where do you suppose 5 gallons of gas could have run off to????
6. Last Wednesday and Thursday on the way home from my rear brakes locked up on me. I had a 8mm wrench that I used to release the pressure. I was surprised to see steam coming out of the bleeder valve. I pumped the brake until fluid came out. This released the pressure enough to get me home. Friday before going to work I bled the rear brakes then rode to and from work with no issues thinking all was good now. This happened to me a month or so ago but I thought it was water in the fluid or just over filling it and bleeding them seemed to work. So Saturday my daughter asked if she could use my bike to get to work and since I can’t ride for a week (had recent surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from my forehead) I let her take it. I warned her about the possibility of the brakes locking up and what to do if they do. Well they locked up on her. She handled the bike just fine and got off to the side of the road. She got off the bike proceeded to take the right bag off and a Highway Patrol officer pulled up offered to help but had no real knowledge for these bikes so he just turned his lights on and positioned his vehicle to help protect her from traffic. (I would like to say thanks to that officer) She got the bag off (she noticed that it was melting and actually bubbling where it was closest to the brake caliper) released the pressure and was able to continue on to work. I am also thinking that I may need to replace my rear brake pads (probably glazed from the heat)
7. I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on this, but I was wondering how you all do this while traveling. What I'm talking about is your GPS, helmets, jackets, cups, etc. When you stop, do you take all, some or none of this stuff with you? Does it matter if it's a 15 minute ice cream stop verses a 1.5 hour dinner? Also, do you keep your trunk and bags locked at all times? I've kind of bounced back and forth depending on the area of town I'm in but was wondering what others do while travelling.... Thanks for your help! Mike
8. Well, our zumo 550 has locked up....Beth used it last fall for deer widow's weekend, and had issues with it......we tried using it a couple of weeks ago and it was a no go...wouldn't "open" up.....I tried updating the maps today...and it wouldn't go past the initial page, something about saving trip data and the usb being hooked up....so I guess it goes back to Garmin for some TLC......it's been awesome up to this point, hopefully the repairs won't tear us up $$$ wise...and we should have it back before riding season, which is still 2-3 months away for us up this way, or thereabouts depending on Mother Nature. gunk:think:
9. I have a 500 gig western digital hard drive that took a fall while I was in Afgahnistan does anyone on the site have the whatever it takes to get the data off of the platters I can tell you this that the motor locked solid and the platters both have a white square mark that showes where the heads were are supposed to park Thanks Jeff
10. Well I had a great ride to here. Picked my wife up at the airport then later went out to pick up some things at walmart. Came back out and it was taken off my seat. Yup an easy mark I never locked it up. I'll be shopping tomorrow after checking out some pawn shops. Themselves the breaks. At least I didn't lose the bike
11. This morning, got to try out the Nolan X-1002 helmet, Condor so graciously sold me. Fits perfectly and has a lot less wind noise than my HJC IS-Max. After supper, I made a Wally-World run, on the scoot. When I got there, I had a "" moment. The new helmet has a quick release buckle on the chin strap. In other words, no "D" ring to hook on the helmet lock. So, this time the trunk was empty and I just locked the helmet in there. How many others here have this predicament? Short of putting your, like this, helmet in the trunk, how do you secure it?
12. Hi Guys, how are you all. I went on holiday camping over here in the UK, while i was packing to come home i closed my pannier boxes and boot lid on my RSV and guess what i locked my keys inside, even worse was i didn't know which box i locked them in. I had no tools as they were locked in box so i was knackered. I called our national breakdown service and after waiting 4 hours ( because England were playing ) they could not help me. So another 2 hours passed and we were relayed with bike home about 3am. I managed to pick the locks with a pair of manicure scissors ( not mine by the way ) but i had to remove the thin chrome covers. ( see photos ) Then i took the helmet locks to pieces and removed there chrome covers and put them on the pannier locks. What i am looking for now if possible is anyone who has 2 helmet locks so i can get the chrome covers off them,( you cannot dismantle the pannier locks to get chrome covers of but you can fit them on ). Reason is they look crap without the covers and i still want to use the same key all round bike. If you can help i will pay for items and postage to UK. What a plonker thanks guys Dave ( UK )
13. A month ago I posted how after bleeding brakes on the 83 Venture the brakes locked up on the test drive and had no play in pedal. The bike is at a friends and he just got back from 3 weeks in Florida so I got to work on it for the first time today. First I adjusted the brakes so I had free play in the pedal. Took for test drive and after using the brakes twice the rear and left front locked up again. Took bleeder wrench so cracked rear caliper bleeder, released pressure and didn't touch brakes until I got back. Two or three hits on the brakes and locked up again. Now this time took a small hammer and tapped on master and brakes released somewhat. Now the master was already taken apart and cleaned. So I believe the problem is with master cylinder. So the questions are. Should the master be talking apart and cleaned again or should I look for another master cylinder? And is it agreed the Master cylinder is the most likely reason for the lock ups? Thank You.
14. Hey gents, was wondering if anyone will be in attendance at the Toronto show this weekend, 7,8,9 Dec. I'm planning on heading out to the show Sunday, and if anyone from the group will be there we could possibly meet up. Now that winters locked it's teeth on us here, might as well make the best of it, bike shows, sportsman shows, fishing shows, then finally, spring arrives. Jim
