1. Got a couple extra dinero and I've wanted a bike jack for awhile now. What's a good, cheap (mutually exclusive terms) bike jack? Any recommendations? I have an `89 XVR13 and I've read multiple threads on jacking the beast off the ground, etc. I can't seem to find any direct recommendations or references (other than "Harbor Freight") for a decent bike jack. I'm not a major wrench twister and the jack wouldn't get used much but I do have a couple of major items to fix on my Blu before she rides again and having her sitting on a jack will be far superior to getting my fat butt up and down off the cold garage floor... Harbor Freight has 3 (seemingly identical) "bike jacks" with PN's 61632, 60536 & 69995 - all for the low low price of $99.99. They also show PN 60636 with a different configuration and double the pricetag. All 4 are rated at 1,500lbs. Sears list model 34612 for ~$120 with same weight rating and featuring 3 locking positions. Any other links / recommendations / experience or leads would be appreciated.
2. I have seen in the past on this site, someones instructions to remove the tape deck and add a jack for an MP3 player. I haven't found it, any help would be appreciated......Thanks!
3. OK.. having lots of fun trying to get rear wheel back in. Don't want to let the air out of tire and don't want to loosen the rear drive bolts either since I have it nicely aligned. Even with a jack it's just not going in. Same size tire as old one, too... Other ideas or tips?? thanks! david
4. As the title says, how do you jack up your Gen 1 Ventures? I was thinking about getting a jack but without lifting adapters I would not be able to jack up the bike without jacking on the exhaust pipes. I've read extensively about the Gen 2 adapters but I haven't seen anything on Gen 1 adapters. Or do we just have to lie down on the floor to work on it? Or use a table lift? I was thinking of getting the Harbor Freight High Lift jack like the one Cowpuc used in his May 6, 2014 post photos. But Puc jacked Tweeks up under the exhaust pipes without using an adapter. I don't want to do that.
5. I'm removing my cassette deck and putting in a mp3 jack on my 87vr. I found a few threads about this but am still a little confused. I understand jumping pins 1 and 7 to bypass the deck. Which ones do I wire in the switch and jack to? Does anyone make something I can just plug into the old cassette wire and go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm mechanical but no electrician, so please be as specific as possible.
6. Hi there folks. I have placed an ad in the classified section offering to sell RSV lift frame adapters. These can only be used on bikes without the centerstand on them. You mount them to the bikes lower frame first using a steel rod that is provided with the adapter, then slide a mc jack under it and lift the bike up. I built these with some new improvements over the one I had done before. This model has much better access to the oil filter. This is a much better set up & safer from using hockey pucks or lumber in my opinion. Being out of work for almost a year now I've decided to put my ideas and skills to use to provide some income from selling these as well as at the same time giving our members here a product that will see a lot of use. I'm asking $65 + shipping costs. I'll get a better idea as to the shippng costs next week. I'm guessing offhand at the moment something between $10 & $15. Pay Pal payments is available as well. Any questions please do contact me either here in PM or vie E-Mail Thanks in advance, Larry Skeels Update: Due to several requests for a self standing model I am now offering one that will allow the jack to be removed entirely. Current model will allow the wheels to be off the ground 5 - 5 1/2". Other heights available per request. Costs for this model will be $105 for local pick up or $125 shipped Update 1-07: I've added another option for those of you have my Freestanding lift adapter. I'm offering them now with foot pads welded on per request if wanted, for an additional $5. For those of you who already have my freestanding adapter I'm also offering a slip on foot for $15 which includes shipping. Both have a 3" square pad and will keep your legs from sinking into the ground, gravel, or blacktop drives for those who have no concrete. UPdate 2-8-07: It has come to my attention that the Larin jack is about 1/2" shorter than the width of the adapters. Which will make it much harder to get the jack centered properly. I have come up with a solution thou that will center the lift pads of the jack everytime and at no extra cost for the Larin jack owners. So if you have a Larin jack let me know before ordering and I will incorporate the modification before shipping an adapter out.
7. Looking to replace my Larin MC jack (MAL-2C). The jack bottle died, second one to do that. (but must admit it does not get used often) Also, the balance with the Venture on it is very poor, actually downright scarry. Seems to be a toss up between the Pit Bull and the J&S. Want something sturdy, good balance with a Venture in the air, and good warranty. I do alerady have Carbon One's adapter. I may see what's at the IMS this weekend in Atlanta. Suggestions? Thanks, Mike G
8. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/12/24/legendary-actor-jack-klugman-dies-at-0/ LOS ANGELES – Jack Klugman, the prolific, craggy-faced character actor and regular guy who was loved by millions as the messy one in TV's "The Odd Couple" and the crime-fighting coroner in "Quincy, M.E.," died Monday, a son said. He was 90. Klugman, who lost his voice to throat cancer in the 1980s and trained himself to speak again, died with his wife at his side. "He had a great life and he enjoyed every moment of it and he would encourage others to do the same," son Adam Klugman said. Adam Klugman said he was spending Christmas with his brother, David, and their families. Their father had been convalescing for some time but had apparently died suddenly and they were not sure of the exact cause. 9. today i was out doing laundry. when i saw a lady in the parking lot looking at the back right side of her car? i went out and she had a flat tire. she said she had no spare no jack nothing to change this or fix this tire. i went to work and got out my floor jack and huge 4 way tire wrench. with my knee i had a little trouble but got the tire off. told her to watch my laundry and i will be right back. i went down to kings tires just down the road to see if it could be patched? well the tire had a huge screw in it that came out the side wall. and the tire was pretty well shot. so i said hey do you have a used tire you could sell as they do have them. then i explained why i could not afford a new tire. the owner put on a brand new tire and just charged me for mounting. then said merry christmas. it,s people like you who do good things for others and i want to help pass it on. so i give a big A++++++++++++ to kings tire of lasalle IL the woman is now back on the road and the smile and thanks from her just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
10. Hey guys, What's the best way to jack up a First Gen? Help me out. I want to check the front wheel bearings, steering bearings, rear bearings, swing arm and shock. You know... all that stuff that could cause major mishaps at interstate speeds. So I need to get the front and back off of the ground. Is there an easy way to get it up on to the center stand? That will help for some stuff. I can't seem to do it even with help. I have a Harbor Freight M/C Jack, willingness and ingenuity!
11. Hey, all you Evergreen State forum members, if you want or need a FREE motorcycle lift, then I have one for you. The one I am giving away...for FREE...is a 10 year old Powerlift Hydraulics motorcycle lift, like 93.1465 % of the red lifts we see out there for bikes. This one is the same one as all those others, except that this one needs to have the bottle jack replaced. Yes, that is right, it is NOT in brand new condition. It is used, for the past 10 years, and recently the bottle jack broke on me, due to my own error (which I will not go into). The lift, all metal pieces, etc, are in good condition. Other than the bottle jack, this thing still looks and works good. No metal fatigue anywhere. Since I was not successful in finding a new bottle jack to replace this one, I ended up going out and buying a new...aluminum jack, that is a step-up from what I had. Yeah...it cost me more $, but...what the hay ! So, if any of you riders that live in the Greater Puget Sound area want a FREE motorcycle lift, send me a PM, and we can work out who drives where and who picks up/delivers what to whom. I am willing to go out of my way to help get this to you, rather than throwing about 100 lbs. of iron. Contact me... Update: The Lift is now Spoken For. Consider it GONE.
12. Couldn't have done it without this forum. Used it once and its paid for itself. Anyone in eastern nc that wants to save a few $ Ive got tools a jack and a covered area to work.
13. Got a flyer yesterday and the Harbor Freight Motorcycle jack is on sale this weekend for $69.
14. Jack may get upset with me doing this - as often he is a very private person - but "we" all are family and I would ask if we could make a moment for he and his family. I received this e-mail from him this morning: Dear Friends, Last evening at aproximately 8 o'clock Nadine lost her battle with liver cancer and peacefully passed on to a better place. We were married for 45 years, and she was the love of my life. In passing she was surrounded by family and friends. Memorial service will be held on July 21st at Trinity Life Center, Sacramento Ca. More details to follow.. Jack Barbara and I send our love and prayers to you and your family, Jack. May Nadine rest in peace.
15. I found rather coming behind the trike (lower profile). It was much easier to come in with the jack from the left/right side front fenders. it also gives you the room to plant a couple jack stands as well. Just come in from the direction shown and place the jack(s) under the shock bolt area. when coming in from that direction it allows you to be able to place the jack in the front on the other bar. when I remove both wheels I still leave both jacks in place and add the jack stands for saftey. These are $16 dollor jacks from your favorite Auto Store. While all the tires are off I plan on using POR-20 in the Exhaust extensions And cleaning everything up under there. I will post the POR-20 job next week. Enjoy. 16. been working on this for a couple of weeks..........i added gauges where the cassette was...still kept the mp3 jack...........just did a test run....wadda ya think.......
17. i am getting ready to change front tire and tighten up head bearings but not really sure how to jack it up safely .please help:confused07:
18. Not sure this has made this forum yet or not, but sure seems like a nice replacement addition for the CD Changer and conventional MP3 Player thru the Aux Jack routine. http://www.venturemp3.com/
19. Looking for stabilzing jack for the front of my motorcyle trailor. Anyone know where I can get one?
20. I am going to be stripping & cataloging the parts bike. The engine has 60K mile & I would like to remove it, crate it & store it for future rebuild. What is the best way to get it out of the frame. My available lifting tools are a car floor jack. car transmission jack, a bottle jack, as well as a full car engine crane. Now on my 81 CB750 I found the easiest way to remove the engine was to remove all the mounts on the left side, lay her down & remove the right motor mounting points. When I lift the frame up, the engine is sitting nicely on the floor w/o a problem. I read Scott MacMartin's write up http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39013 but it really doesn't clarify the actual removal. So to the ones on here who have pulled their Gen1 engines, how did you do it?
21. I have to replace my clutchline/pipe which is located right underneath the engine I DO NOT have a jack adapter and using wood blocks I can raise bike but the jack is in the way really NO room to work any ideas as to how I can raise it. I would just like to get the front off the ground about a a foot or more with the rear tire on the ground. Jack is 12" wide with 9" between lifts.
22. Using an automotive floor jack (and a block of wood) what is the best location to lift the bike. (for example to change fork bearings) I don't see clear access to the frame & I don't want to crush the exhaust. Can I use the engine pan? I will eventually get a M/C Jack Sorry for all the questions but I don't find any in the search & I figure thre will be something for future VentureRiders!
23. Don't have time to wait to buy a jack adapter How and where do I put wood so that I can jack the bike up just need to get front end off the ground but need to get at the clutch line either needs tightened or replaced and I have ti tighten steering change coolant so I just need to straighten her up and get a liitle height on the front end just so the tires an inch offf the ground. Oh my jack width is about 14"
24. Well I guess the weather was a little to chilly for some, we only had 3 bikes show up for RoyalStarJack's fall ride, but it was a great ride anyway, Jack, his wife Cheryl, RandyR and myself braved the chilly temps. We made our way via some beautiful back roads that were so colorful it was hard keeping my eyes on the road. We had a nice lunch at Col. Pooles BBQ, which is our regular stop on this ride, from there back roads all over the N. Ga. mountains with a couple of stops to take some pics. The weather was chilly but beautiful. Thanks again to Jack for a wonderful way to spend a fall Saturday. I had to make this one, it might be my last ride like that for a few months, since I will be having Carpal Tunnel surgery on my left hand in Nov. 25. Hello Everyone: When I first joined this site almost two years ago there were no other local members. The closest member was Zfrebird4 in Fort Collins CO. about 150 miles away. We have have spoken and emailed several times since that time, but did not meet until this weekend. Our schedules finally meshed. We rode over to Fort Collins on Saturday, had a nice lunch with Jack and he then led us the back way around Horse Tooth lake to Loveland where Lee and I stayed the night. We met up again on Sunday around noon. Jack led us to Estes Park, Lyons, Longmont and back to Fort Collins. Jack is riding Squidley's former 86 Venture Royale, what a nice bike!! We headed back home to Western Nebraska with more VR memories. Thanks Jack
