  1. I hate starting a new thread on an old topic, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I bought a set of Baron Nasty Boy 4-2-4 pipes for my RSTD last year and ran them for about 1/2 the season. Just about every thread I found out here says they sound great, but mine sound raspy and a lot like the glass packs I put on my old Mustang. I thought they came without glass. They also feel like there is more back pressure than my old Samsons (which sounded and performed much better). When I goose the throttle they are much slower to respond than my old Samsons did. Before re-chroming and putting the Samsons back on, anyone have a cure for me? PS How do I get the freakin' baffles out? They get stuck at the end of the pipe. Much thanks to anyone who can help out..
  2. If you buy stuff on line, check out the seller carefully, especially first genners when you buy on eBay. A friend spent $50 on a penis enlarger. The vendor sent him a magnifying glass, with an instruction warning, "Do not use in the sunlight"
  3. The sight glass on my front brake cylinder burst, I caught it all, and super glued the sight glass (it does not drip. Remotely sight usable) But, it seems despite that, the lower half of the plastic on the terminal panel that holds the CLASS, and the CB is severely gone now, the "seat" for it all is still fine. (And, gone as in. The CB bounces >.>) Anyone have that panel? http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp #45 here
  4. At a wine merchant's warehouse the regular taster died, and the director started looking for a new one to hire. A retired Chief Petty Officer, drunk and with a ragged dirty look, came to apply for the position. The director wondered how to send him away. They gave him a glass of wine to taste. The old Chief tried it and said, "It's a Muscat three years old, grown on a north slope, matured in steel containers. Low grade but acceptable." "That's correct," said the boss. "Another glass, please. After tasting the wine, the Chief declared, " a cabernet, eight years old, south-western slope, oak barrels, matured at eight degrees. Requires three more years for finest results." "Absolutely correct. A third glass." ''It's a pinot blanc champagne, high grade and exclusive,'' calmly said the drunk. The director was astonished and winked at his secretary to suggest something. She left the room and came back in with a glass of urine. The old Navy Chief tried it. "It's a blonde, 26 years old, three months pregnant, and if I don't get the job, I'll name the father."
  5. Anyone know of a place to get a set of lower windshield mounting brackets for a 96 Royal Star? I have the lower glass, no way to mount. Thanks
  6. Guys, I have had my spin on Rivco adapter since 1991. I have been using Puro-classic 10193. Now after just 1600 miles I have noticed my oil is way darker than ever using my usual Mobil1 20w50. I can't see the back of the sight glass w/o a flashlight. And I am going to change it soon. NOTE: I have dyno tuned the bike, not running rich and getting 38 mpg 75mph hiway and 43 mpg back rural roads every day. Maybe The filters are now made different or I got a bad one that the "bypass" was stuck. Thus not filtering. I once used a PureOne and found it was way too restrictive. Actually significantly lowered the oil pressure showing on my gauge. And thus used only the Purolator-classic for 20 years. Q: What spin on filters do you guys use? Wix, STP, Napa ??? ANd how clean does your oil come out?...obviously clean is a relative term. I always find the sight glass on the centerstand a good gauge.
  7. I have a friend who is visiting with his 87 Venture. He dropped the bike on the kick stand side a couple of days ago. No apparent damage, so he rode it for an hour after. Everything was fine. Today he was heading to my house and the oil level indicator came on along with the flashing red light. His oil level is at the top of the sight glass and was changed about 1000 miles ago. Does anyone know where the sending unit is for the oil level warning or have any ideas? Thanks ..... Peter
  8. I got the ok yesterday from thr eye doc to go for a spin after a bit over a month of sitting around wasting all the nice weather. the bike has been sitting covered out back so I go back and she started right up, I let it run for quite a while to get warm and run some seafoam thru the carbs. When I swent to go for a ride I make the first corner and pull in t clutch to shift and notice a drip onto the filler panel where the radio normally sits. , and when I checkwhere its coming from its brake fluid...i look around and see the sight glass has a crack in it. I was wondering about a cheap way to fix it, and thinking that JBWeld and soething about the size of a coin over the glass opening would fill that and fix it. Has anyone tried this? And do you think it will work? I also notice that it feels that Ive got a back brake drgging on the bike too, any easy ways of fixing that too? I am still having issues focusing on close objects so I am having to stick to simple jobs until this vision clears up. Thanks for the help and advice, Brian
  9. I today purchased a 1984 Venture xvz12. it has the factory exhaust on it. My question is, is there a way to remove the baffles or is this not possible, I am looking for more noise. There is a seam about 3 inches from the narrow tip just after i expands. or is it better to just buy aftermarket. I did read the post about the thrush glass packs. Has anyone straight piped one. My next question is how many miles do these bikes last. the one I bought has 42k it runs great still has lots of power, is it getting time to retire it and sell it for parts
  10. i get the bike running great again now after the test ride i am leaking oil real bad under nith running down the kickstand and spraying oil all over lt side of bike onto the wheel all i did was chang the carbs the oil leavel is only half way in the sight glass so not over full any ideas as to what might me leaking frustated bumbkle bee 1999 rsv
  11. 2009 RSV (Canadian version)... hadn't noticed anything "missing" until a recent post by a UK member showing that their speedometer showed MPH on the glass display and the LCD displayed KPH. Mine only has KPH on the glass display and the LCD is blank. Question for Canadian (bike originally sold in Canada, and not US import) bike owners... does your speedometer show anything other than the needle on the LCD ? Is yours the same as mine or like the one in http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=695026&postcount=18 Mine is like attached. General question - is there a button combination (reset/select) to toggle the display?
  12. My Clutch master started oozing/leaking around it's sight glass. I have ignored the crazing ugly mess for a couple of years, but this spring she started to leak. Instead of risking my plastic, I bought the watch crystal as mentioned in the other thread and decided to get to work. First, open up the master and become horrified. This goo is all over in there, which means it's in the slave and line. yay, more work ahead of me. Clean it out good, I siphoned out all the old with an old turky baster and rags. then washed it with clean new synthetic DOT3 compatible. you can see the corrosion from the water that was in the fluid. Note: change the fluid more than once every 4 years. second, get a couple of tiny thin screwdrivers and a small hammer, you can go around the outside of the old glass making a gap, to eventually get most of the old rotted plastic out. at this time the little metal piece that has a slot on it will fall out. dont worry, you will not use this anymore. Third, get a small screwdriver and start tapping out the metal insert ring that held the old sight glass assembly. go careful as you can ding up the aluminum housing easily. Finally, clean it all up with a painters prep and get a good strong solvent resistant epoxy. I used JB weld as they claim it's brake fluid resistant and I cant find others that do claim this. but it has to be fully cured, so that means a few days without contact to Brake fluid. that's it. Unless someone finds a way to put a more modern one on the bike, we cant get replacement sight glasses, and Used ones are ready to fail just based on age. I really hope this helps someone, it took me a leap of faith to do it and I freaked out when the sight glass did not fit, that's when I discovered the press fit insert you have to knock out.
  13. BUT.... I can not put more then 3 Qts in the since it has been Triked... this is with a new filter as well. If I put 3.5 Qts in and start the bike and let it sit over night the oil is at the top LINE of the site glass. and then in return it will run out of my over flow vents at the bottom of my bike. As you can see in a previous post that I had made in the trike section with the oil all over my Diff from the spray back from the vent tubes. The trike looks level and all. and with the 3 Qts in there the oil is right at the middle on the site glass now. It is just stumping heck out of me.. bike runs great , but still it is only 3 qts, Think it will be OK this way? Thanks, Jeff
  14. During my bike cleaning today i decided to try to clean the clutch sight glass. I used a screw driver to lightly scrape away the thick oxidation. Then the problem, fluid began to leak from the center of the glass. Can i repair this with sometype of glue or adhesive. I'd really hate to go through the sight glass replacement process.
  15. glass of wine To my friends who enjoy a glass of wine...And those who don't and are alwaysseen with a bottle of water in their hand. As Ben Franklin said:In wine there is wisdom,In beer there is freedom,In water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials,Scientists have demonstrated that if we drink1 litre of water each day,At the end of the year we would have absorbedMore than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteriaFound in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. However,We do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer(or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor)Because alcohol has to go through a purification processOf boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. Remember:Water = Poop,Wine = Health. Therefore, it's better to drinkwine and talk stupid, than to drink water and befull of sh_t. There is no need to thank me for this valuable information:I'm doing it as a public service!
  16. A man goes into a bar and drinks beer. After every glass of beer he pulls a picture out of his pocket and looks at it. After the 4th beer the waiter asks him why after every glass of beer he pulls the picture out and looks at it Then the man says: It's a picture of my wife. When she looks good to me I'm going home. That is an example of the "The Power of Beer" Be sure to click where it says "click here" Wait a few seconds and if nothing happens then pull the beer glass to the right.http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00622/beer_goggles_622180a.swf
  17. After flushing out my clutch oil today because it was 'dark' in the sight glass, I notice it's still 'dark' in the sight glass after all fresh new DOT 4 went into the system.. The brake reservoir sight glass shows bright oil but the clutch is still showing dark oil.. Is this due to a dirty sight glass and can it be cleaned? Cheers
  18. As my mirror on the right side fell of the bike in my hand today while I was trying to adjust it I figured what the hack I'll atempt to fix it instead of buying a new one. Turned out pretty good. First I removed the glass from the black retainer buy using an exacto knife to remove the front edge as i found out the glass is not glued in. Second I removed the black retainer by taking out 3 small phillips screws. Third I drilled out the bracket still on the bike to let a 1/4 inch by 1 1'2 screw pass through. Then installed the base of the mirror with the 1/4 in screw using two 1/4 inch washer on the inside of mirror. Pic will show 6 but had to take back apart becouse the black retainer wouldn't go back in place with all 6 washers.Next was the black base screwed back in place followed by the glass. As I removed the retaining ring with the exacto knife I used 5 minute epoxy to hold the mirror in place. I'll post back tommorow as to how well this holds up as we have a ride planned for a couple of hours by the Petty Museum. Hope this works as well as I think it will as it was easy enough for a non mechanic like me to do. Just take your time with the removal of the glass so as not to break it. David
  19. This weekend (Friday - Saturday), Jan and I took Quickstep's bike for a shake down ride to the Rat Fink Reunion in Manti. We traveled 325 miles over the two days and got to see some of the artists do some great work. I've gotten the bike repainted and the plastic reinstalled for the trip. The bike averaged about 45 miles per gallon. I did have one issue with the clutch master cylinder losing the nickel that was covering the missing site glass we'll fix this week. While we were looking around the museum, some paint from Frank Fallond got on the bike....check it out. I think we'll leave it on, kind of adds character: http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Alans%2084%20Rebuild/IMG_1176.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Alans%2084%20Rebuild/IMG_1177.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Alans%2084%20Rebuild/IMG_1181.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Alans%2084%20Rebuild/IMG_1185.jpg We're almost ready for you!! 20. I have a plastic car topper to put on my HF trailer. I did not notice when I acquired it that it looks to have been crashed on one corner. There are some deep scrapes and the corner was pushed in and it rubbed thru at the crease mark. I cant complain, the price was right, which is why I did not look at it closely. I think the thing is vac formed out of ABS but I'm not certain about that. It is an off white in color and has a heavily textured surface. It is a Kartote brand. I was going to do the repair by laying up some glass cloth and epoxy on the inside, but after thinking about that, I realized that this cover is very flexible/flimsy and the glass/epoxy would not be, It will probably just crack off. Is there something flexible that I can use with the glass cloth to repair the crack. Eventually I will paint it, but that will not be for a while, at least not this year, unless I just buzz bomb it.
  21. My husband was installing a replacement 'shock linkage"? (to raise the rear a little) today. When he removed the bottom bolt and the back tire was lowered (its on a stand), some fluid drained out of the shock absorber. He said it was half a shot glass full. Does that mean we have to replace this $ 400 shock??..RSV 02 midnight - than:shock3:x...JanJan
  22. My son was at the pharmacy getting a prescription filled and saw a can of this polish. The clerk said they didn't think too much about carrying it in the store but since word has gotten out that they have it they can't keep it on the shelf. It supposedly cleans and prevents finger prints. I used some on the glass frame of my autographed picture of Larry Pegram on his racing bike. It really leaves a shine. I'm going to try it on my bike. Just wondering if anyone has tried it.
  23. With the motor cold, on its side stand, what should the Oil level be in the Glass window?
  24. Hi everyone, hope all are well. A couple of months back I had asked for some advice on what do with my 89 Venture, it had fuse panel problems. headlight problems, etc. Thanks to all that responded. Shortly after that I had to go on the down low for awhile, had a medical condition come up and I should be relased from the doctor tomorrow. Anyway, I want to thank everyone that responded to my earlier post. I may end up having someone work on this bike for me, but I am going to do what I can. Pushing the comfort zone, as you may say. I have new tires coming for the Venture, planning on removing the wheels and getting the new tires put on. Should I use a m/c jack for this, or use the front wheel dive procedure found on this site? I also need a new front brake master cylinder, the sight glass developed a leak - actually a section of it chipped out and I lost the brake fluid. Got one coming from ebay with a good site glass. After these two fixes I am planning on replacing the fuse panel with Skydoc's kit. Anyway, sorry for rambling. My question, is there a good way to use the m/c jack, suck as either side to mount it from? Thanks in advance, any tips appreciated. Don
  25. My hunt for a cheap great sounding exhaust led me to this site. I read the threads about putting the Road King mufflers on the Royal Stars and decided that's what i wanted to do. But while on a parts run to Advance Auto i was browsing the isles because all the guys were busy. When i came across the Thrush glass packs i had one of those i wonder if that would work moments. So i picked up a pair that are 2" ID and 24" long and two reducers that are 2" OD to 1 3/8" ID. When i got home i removed the trunks and then the stock mufflers. The glass packs are really close to the same diameter as the stock mufflers so i cut the mounting bracket off the stockers. I then welded the reducers into the glass packs. Now with the stock mounting brackets bolted to the bike i slid the glass packs onto the head pipes so i could mark where to weld the brackets to the glass packs. After everything was welded up i sprayed the welds with some red engine paint that i had and bolted them up to the bike. I decided the red had to go and wrapped them in black header wrap. I plan on adding some tips soon too. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP7NazETQEM]YouTube - Royal Star Exhaust[/ame]
