Clutch replacement. Question about torquing up clutch spring plate

Recommended Posts

I need some opinions/advice/expereinces please.

I replaced my friction disks and clutch plates today as I was getting some slip. Currently have 65000 miles on. Had done the spring/friction disk upgrade at approx. 35000 miles so I reused the PCW spring. The friction disks I removed were definitely worn at or below spec.

When torqueing up the clutch spring plate to 70 inch pounds I had the feeling that a couple of the bolts were just about to break free and strip. They did torque up. I was being gentle. I put everything back together and plan on riding the rest of the season.

It made me think I should get a new clutch boss and replace it for peace of mind. I also wondered if there was anything else I should do when I was in there with it removed or if there were any tricks to getting the clutch boss nut off. It looks like I need a special tool. I also see a there is a push rod with an O ring on it that looks like it will have to come out. I figured I would replace the O ring.

Thanks in advance for any experience or advice. JR
