Leaking Fork Seal - GREAT FIX

Boys & Girls IDK if anyone else has posted about this product so I will.

My right front seal has been weeping for awhile. (Muffinman can attest to it, he saw it at the meet & greet) I tried using a 35 mm film negative & it worked for a little bit but I still saw an oil line of demarcation.

When I met Jeff at the Meet & Eat, he was kind enough to give me a list of all the parts I needed to replace the seals.

I was looking up remedies on the web & ran across this.

Basically it's the same principle as the film strip but the thing is not as fragile. It cleans the seal & then you have to reseat it by pumping the forks. (I did 3 sets of 10 pumps each) I used it as instructed cleaning the fork tube & dust cap. I cleaned the seal twice around, then I wiped down the tube. I pumped the front end to reseat the seal. & noticed the oil line. Wiped & cleaned & repeated the front end pumping. I saw a lesser line. By the 3rd time my tubes were dry.

It's been 4 days now without any issues. If you plan on doing a few bikes I would pick up a couple of them.

I found that they sell on EBAY as well. It's cheaper & free shipping.

This is the seller RJ Engineering (RJ ENGR) http://myworld.ebay.com/rjengr?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

Not a bad fix for $4.70

I will post an update again in a week.

Okay, I got one. I've tried the film thing a couple times and it didn't get any better.

I got the blue one, I hope that's the correct color. :Bunny:

Edit: Actually I just looked on their site and the blue is listed as "Yamaha Blue"... So I guess I got the right color after all.

Mark this this works awesome. Just follow the video instruction. The pumping of the forks is essential since this this actually unseats the seal & it needs to reseat.

After I did the right fork it scared me because I saw more oil than before. But for me it took 10 pumps wipe & repeat 3 times.

Worse case is you spend an extra $5 at best (like me) I samed $300 at the dealer or a lot of aggravation in my garage doing it myself.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I had resigned myself to about $300 at the dealer and figured, Hey what's $5.00. It's either $305 if it doesn't work and $5.00 if it does.

Looks like there are quite a few good reviews on them as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll let you know how it works for me.

Oh, this is on my Virago, not my Venture.

Motion Pro carry them to.

I've gone through a few of them over the years. Mostly used them to clean out a dirty seal on dirt bikes. It will work as long as the seal isn't damaged by debris or scars on the inner legs. It's not a sure fire fix it forever thing but is saves your bacon once it's worth trying.

Went through a lot of old 35mm film strips before I was turned onto these.

  • 1 month later...

I have a deep 2 inch scratch on the left tube of my 91 Venture. Its past polishing and I will have to replace it. The PO put on fork gaiters now I know why. Will be looking for a good fork tube this winter. If someone has a scratchless unmarred and straight one I may be interested
