international shipping?

Hey everyone. My future wife and I are planning on shipping our 86' and trailer to somewhere in the UK and from there touring Europe for a month or two. I have absolutely no idea what's involved in getting the bike and trailer over there. We live near a port city, Charleston, SC. Have any of you done this before? What issues are there with licenses and insurance and the overall legality of riding a US registered bike? What's a ballpark figure for shipping/crating? Thanks everyone!

go to member's list and pm shooter(ian morgan) who lives in england and ask him about this. he has shipped his bike a few times and riden all over the world. he also hosted an european ride in 04 but they had rental bike for those going over. he is very nice and helpful, have met and rode with him in the usa. i was trying to go to the ride in 04 but vacation time didn't work out. if you go to his pic gallery you can see some of his travels. good luck on your travels, don. you maybe able to go to www.delphiforums.com and find "the motorcycle tours forum" and post there too, there's several members that have done the cross contin. riding and maybe helpful to you(shooter is a member there too).

thinking of doing this in 2010 for our 25th wedding anniversary. i,ve been looking into it for a few week now. lufthansa are pretty good from what i read .these links have some interesting details. let me know how you get on .

You can also check on www.advrider.com. There are folks on there who have ridden, and shipped bikes, all around the world. Check the regional forums, etc.
