My notes on oil

I've paid attention, used the search tool and taken notes on the often asked "what oil" topic. I see Shell Rotella is highly recommended and that is what I was looking for. Unless I wrote something down wrong in my notes I was looking for Shell Rotella T4 in the Blue bottle (synthetic). I cannot find that (T4 blue bottle) here in the Madison, WI area. I see T6 in a blue bottle but not T4. What's the difference? I have a feeling either one would work. In the meantime I got Castrol GTX Magnatec full synthetic 5W-30. I have not done my oil change yet but plan to soon. Did I miscue on the Rotella notes? 2007 RSV.

Rotella T4 is conventional oil but it meets the JASO spec for motorcycles with a wet clutch. T6 is synthetic. Either one should be fine. That Castrol probably doesn't meet the JASO spec and is probably energy conserving which is a NO NO for wet clutches.

IMOP you cant go wrong with the T6. Full Synthetic and by the gallon its only a couple bucks more. I think rite around $22 bucks at Wally World here.

Ya, I'm gonna take the Castrol back and exchange it for T6. I was looking at the API rating when I grabbed the Castrol, forgot about the JASO rating. This particular Castrol does not have a JASO rating, ergo, I'm not willing to use it in my RSV.

For what it is worth, I no longer use T6 after 9-2018 because the formulation changed to a NO S-Series Rating JASO oil.

There are also two types of T6, 5W-40diesel and 5W-30Gas-Multivehicle. I stay away from both of them.

I have tried other oils and found that anything with a rating of SM-JASO or LOWER made my bike shift better. I live in Texas and it is usually hot here. I use 10W-40 oil.
