Good for you Dave. I have a pair of boots for you to mount on the trunk lid, will put lots of class on the ride.

<Thanks everyone. I chickened out on trying the chemical methods, but thanks for the input. I found a local pinstriper, Painter John, here in Jacksonville, Fl. <He carefully used 1,000 grit wet sand paper and two compounds, to remove the names from the trunk, then polished the areas. There are no shadows <visible (you can not tell they were ever there)—a really great, if expensive job. Anyway, no one calls me Joe anymore.

Easy Off oven cleaner followed with super fine polishing compound. The easy off will not harm painted surfaces but the paint used for lettering is sign paint which is easily removed with oven cleaner. Before decals became the norm for putting company names on the sides of trucks, sign painting and pin-stripping was all done by hand and this was the standard way of removing it. There are days I wish it was still this way since I found removing the sign paint a lot easier than some of the decals I have to remove these days.
