Here is where I get stuck... What kind of LED bulbs work good for the turn signals? Is it just a plain Jane LED bulb or a board? Also I hear that when changing over to LED's the flasher relay needs to be modified or changed out. All I can find as far as the relay is a DIY that looks way more complicated than I want to deal with... I'm not big into soldering and wiring. I am just not very good at it and I don't want to mess something up.

I've already converted my headlight, driving lamps and tall/brake. Been holding off on blinkers for reasons you described. Have always heard there is some "extra" work to be done. The other conversions were simple. I am using a LED bulb in the headlamp and didn't get a new sealed beam. Has been maybe close to a year now and so far, all is good. I can see much better at night and was a much needed upgrade now that I am finally beginning to get old enough that I refer to cougars as young ladies.

And, I have pretty much the same brake/tail light that you have selected. Have had it for about 4 years. Much brighter braking light than the 1157 type bulbs.

I also have one of these style bars, but the chrome version. Really lights up the back end when hitting the brakes.

Is that light bar pretty easy to install? I like the fact of having an extra bit of brake light to emphasize "Hey I'm stopping!" Thinking I might hook up one of those things that make it strobe. I feel dumb cuz I am not sure exactly what it is called.

Not hard to mount. Mine came with needed hardware and just wired it straight into my brake light wiring. I will probably be installing the brake light strobe controller when I swap all my body parts from my 99 to my 09. They are cheap.

If you’re not comfortable modifying the flasher relay, just wait till you get that headlight and see what kind of modifications you’re in for there.

On the turn signal bulbs, aren't they an 1157? No matter, you can find almost any LED automotive bulb with a built in resistor now.

So, what you need is an LED equivalent with resistor that simulates the element load of the original bulb. The element of the original bulb acts as a resistor for just a second while it heats up and turns white hot. That resistance is noted by the flasher and is seen as a load, and times the flasher unit. Normal LED's have no real load like an element bulb, so they don't work with normal flashers. But science to the rescue!! The LED equivalent has a built in resistor that tricks the existing flasher while giving you long life and much brighter light. Plug and play the bulb, keep the existing flasher.

They are not cheap, here is one set listed on Amazon: I know nothing about their reliability, but they come in just short of five stars.

That's a nice bright light, Leo. I may have to consider that, since my Venture didn't come with the fog lights/bar. Just a headlight out there. Not enough, considering I'm still running the original style bulb. I don't normally ride at night, but still, in the daytime, good to have something that catches eyes...I always run my Indian with all three lit up. Those LED's put out a good amount of light.

LEDs. Some ideas for you....

I replaced my headlight bulb, reflectors, taillight with LED's. Taillight was sold by Custom Dynamics, about $90. A board replacement that is quite bright. I don't see it available on their site, now, but it fit the VStars as well. Maybe available on EBay.

The reflectors I replaced with 2 cheap 2-way LED boards that fit almost perfectly into the reflector spaces...and wired to the taillight and front running and turn signals through plug and play adapter cables sold by a member here. Added an LED strip under trunk and HD style tail light kit for additional running and stop lights.

Headlight bulb was a Dot approved LED with low beam cutoff and passive cooling. Fit fine and works very well.

Also, you might want to consider the ignition switch modification. As stock, Yamaha runs a ton of current through the switch. Member that makes the plug and play cables also makes a plug and play set up that routes most of the current through a relay instead of the switch. Easy installation, like all of his stuff. Look up above under classifieds, member venders.

LEDs in rear

Reflector LEDs..run and turn blink. Wires run through rear guard, up front forks.

Plug and play accessory cables from Steve. I've used his stuff to wire in the XM radio power, rear lights, front leds and soon the small front spot lights I'll be mounting on the forks. I used the 12 volt power center located under the dash on the lower left side of the fairing.

Pics of the headlight pattern. High beam does go out nicely! Much better than stock in both reach and width.

Low beam...

High

I also lowered my front end about an inch. helps level the bike, gives me more flat feet room and makes the low speed handling a touch easier.

Currently run 0-4 lbs air front shock, 30lbs rear shock. Front tire at 38 and rear at 40. I change rear to 35-40 for 2 up.

PS. love your part of the country. Spent some time just East of Knoxville picking up my travel trailer. Strawberry Plains Best Western! Been through that area a lot in past few years. Will have to plan a detour south to your area by the Tennessee River next time!

Where did you get the led for the side reflectors? Thanks for the response.
