Recommended Posts

7 days of fun Long Distance Rally riding July 3-9, 2016. I participated in Butt Lite 7 last year but didn't do very well (I did finish though). Looking to improve my performance.

Top 10 finishers get a no draw entry into the 2017 Iron Butt Rally (11 days) - the Superbowl of Long Distance Rallying. Winner gets a fully paid entry (worth about $2000).

Have a lot of work to do on the old Venture to get ready.

- Valve shims

- Fork oil change

- Tires

- Brake and clutch fluid

- Steering stem nut adjustment

- Final drive lube change

- New fuel lines

- Plugs

- Wires?

- Clean air filters

- Inspect fuel pump contacts

- Brake pads front and rear

- Lube brake and clutch lever pivots

- Sync carbs

- Colortune carb mixtures

- Front and rear wheel bearings

I am really excited to run this again.

  • 7 months later...

Just finished getting the bike refreshed. Had a few extra items that showed up that needed done.

Swing arm bearings replaced

Rear suspension bearings, sleeves, bolts, and dogbones replaced

Upgraded all HIDs to LEDS (headlight and running lights)

Still need to do a colortune and carb sync. Unfortunately, it is a little snowy around here to get the bike out of the shop to get it warmed up. Perhaps next weekend.

Other than that, it is ready to go!!:Venture:

Hope it goes great for you this year. Did you see the post I did about the hardness (or lack of) of the dogbones?

OK, if I was still working I would have checked the hardness on our hardness tester. But I'm not so I had my friend check the hardness on the RC scale for me. The dark, longer ones are the stock links from my RSTD and the other ones are lowering links for my DL650 Suzuki.

I knew what the outcome would be, but now you can see what it is:

dog bones - RSTD stock and DL650 lowering links (Medium).jpegThese were both soft as I suggested

In fact I'm putting the vstrom lowering links on today. Only 3/4" though.

The link you posted states this event is - SOLD OUT.....:stickpoke:......or am I reading it incorrectly?

Yes, it was sold out in about 10 hours. Kind of like a Rolling Stones concert.

I got in by getting signed up at about 5am.

If I do better this year, 2019 is the year for me to run the Iron Butt Rally!!
