Removed and Replaced Starter 86 Venture

I have the will but not the aptitude; nonetheless I was able to remove and replace a starter [that stopped working without warning] on my 1986 Venture! I was excited; especially when it turned the engine over after installation. That's always a good thing obviously.

Drained the coolant out of the 19mm bolt on bottom of water pump; removed the two hoses in front, unfastened the thermostat assembly, backed the elbow out of the water pump, removed bolts from starter and removed electrical cable and "argued" the starter out of its hole with a bit of leverage and finally got it out. I did not remove radiator nor an exhaust pipe, not did I take thermostat housing apart.

I am very thankful for the help I found on these pages. It was really good to know about getting a starter that is a four brush versus the original two brush. Together with my new Deka AGM battery and four brush starter I should not have to worry much about getting it to start in the future.
